Official: Porto sign Walter on long-term deal

Alvaro Pereira also extends contract with Dragons

WalterThe long-running saga involving the transfer of Brazilian striker Walter to FC Porto has ended. The Dragons finally tied down the player to a five-year contract yesterday, and he trained with his new team-mates today.

Porto paid six million euros for 75% ownership of the Brazil under-20 star. His buyout clause has been set at 30 million euros.

Walter becomes the seventh new signing for Andre Villas Boas this close season. Joao Moutinho, Sereno, Emidio Rafael, Souza, James Rodriguez and Kieszek have all moved to the Estadio do Dragao.

Meanwhile Uruguayan left-back Alvaro Pereira has renewed his contract for an additional year, extending his deal until the 2014/15 season. Pereira joined from Romanian outfit Cluj one year ago and made 41 appearances for Porto in his debut year.

Good move from Porto, but Portistas already saying they have one hand on the trophy when the season hasn't started yet. I hope it's a good season and hope Benfica retains.

well stated too funny.....my thoughts exactly. The only reason Porto might challenge a little better this season for the title is if they keep Alves, and because Benfica will be understandably focused on their CL results. I actually think that Sporting will be more of a threat this season. Time will tell......excited for the new 2010/2011 Liga Zon Sagres campaign.
Normal service will resume?

Too funny
Why are Porto getting out their money to buy referees again?

Porto have an unproven coach and over half a dozen new faces to date, the title won't be yours. It's called a rebuilding year. And should you sell Alves and Meireles, the rebuilding will take at least another year.

Good signing for Porto, at least they’ll have a replacement from when someone makes Hulk angry LOL.

I love the comments, Benfica have been able to keep a similar squad that dominated Porto last season with some additional add-ons and their young stars like David and Fabio are even better now. So I think the Benfiquistas are far from scared but I do hope Porto can provide some good competition like Braga has. That will make extending the title record again that much more enjoyable.

I must say I'm quite excited about the new signings but am already the next shopping window should this team play to the potential... I'm afraid they will just be more money spinners as they move on to bigger $$ clubs. Oh well at least we won't go bankrupt like some other big clubs...eg Liverpool, Barcelona...

Porto were very poor last season for a long spell and that gave Braga & that other team the upper hand.

This season however Porto should be much stronger and hopefully normal service will resume.

All these moves are going to bring the championship back to where it belongs...In PORTOOOOO! I love the signings, stealing Mountinho from Sporting was fantastic! Sagres Liga is going to be fantastic this year with Benfica, SPorting, and Braga all improving their respected squads, but in the end Villa Boas will win back what is rightfully ours!
Must be getting scary

Benfiquistas must be gettin pretty scared of Porto by now. Granted you guys are the Champions until someone beats you over the course of a season but with the roster the Dragoes have set up, that reign could be pretty short lived.
