Helton: “Super Cup match with Benfica not life or death”Goalkeeper insists Dragons are improving FC Porto’s Helton has played down the importance of this weekend’s Portuguese Super Cup clash with Benfica, but promises his team will give their all to win the match.
The teams meet in Aveiro Saturday in the curtain-opener for the new season, with the Liga Zon Sagres getting underway the following weekend. Although keen to retain the trophy they won last season, the Dragons’ ‘keeper believes the result of the match will have little impact on the remainder of the campaign. “It’s not life or death,” Helton said. “All challenges are important during the course of a season, it does no good to see a game as life or death, or to think it will be good or bad for the team going forward. We want to win, as always, and will do everything we can to make it happen. We are ready and will be better in this next game.” Andre Villas Boas’ team have been unconvincing in pre-season, losing to French sides Paris Saint-German and Bordeaux in their last two matches, but Helton believes there are signs of improvement in the team’s preparation. “FC Porto is in good shape and we are getting better. The goals conceded from set-pieces are details that we are looking to correct. We are committed and the whole group is looking to improve.” By Sean Gillen PortuGOAL.net is on Facebook.
