Steven Defour and Eliaquim Mangala join PortoFalcao move to Atletico Madrid imminent, Ruben Micael to leave After watching title rivals Benfica and Sporting carry out a whirlwind of transfer activity throughout the summer, FC Porto’s squad turnaround has suddenly gone into overdrive. Standard Liege duo Steven Defour (pictured) and Eliaquim Mangala have been signed for a combined fee of 12.5 million euros.
Moving in the other direction, it appears striker Falcao’s move to Atletico Madrid is imminent, and the Colombian may be joined at the Vicente Calderon by Portugal midfielder Ruben Micael.
Defour is a Belgium international midfielder and cost Porto 6 million euros. Mangala is a French U21 central defender. The Dragons paid 6.5m euros for him. Both players have signed 5-year contracts which include release clauses of €50 million.
And fifty million euros is precisely the sum Atletico Madrid are reported to be willing to shell out to secure the services of Radamel Falcao and Ruben Micael.
Falcao admitted on the weekend that he would like to move to Los Colchoneros. Should the moves go through, it will take the Spanish team’s quota of Portuguese players to five. Tiago, Silvio and Julio Alves are all Atletico Madrid players.

Also, it's a damn travesty that Benfica's starting line up for the majority of their games this season has been without a single Portuguese. I simply can't believe that they would sell Danilo Pereira and loan out Nelson Oliveira on the grounds that they can't displace Javi Garcia and Saviola respectively. And to make matters worse, they replace these young Portuguese with young foreigners of arguably equal potential, to be understudies to the foreign starting line up. This league is getting less and less Portuguese. Of course these teams have a responsibility to win titles, but they also have a responsibility to the youngsters in their academies.
I believe I echo the sentiment of every Portuguese football fan out there when I say: "WHEN IS THIS SH#T GOING TO STOP!"
Tiago+Alves+Silvio+Micael=4 Portuguese players :)
They will sign another striker. they got Hulk, that man is a beast. Too bad he aint Portuguese.
SLB FOOOOR LIFE
News in England report that Chelsea may be in line to sign Moutinho and Álvaro Pereira, and it could well be that Spurs and other clubs have not given up on Hulk yet.
Good signings indeed but I still think it's who leaves and who stays that'll decide Porto's season.
Number 4 Johnieo:
Tell me two or three players from under-20 national team that would be a regular on the big three.
Number 2 Reis:
ahahahah the quote of the day!
I guess my prejudice vs Sporting still shines through when talking about Moutinho.
I still say that Moutinho is over valued by most Portuguese.
I also think that Beluschi isn't very good either, which saddens me to hear that Micael might be on the move.
I really thought that Micael was going to show himself well.
As for these signings, I think they're great.
It will bring in quality for the midfield and strengthen the defense.
As usual Porto continues to make great decisions. Especially if they are ablet to get 50 mil out of Atletico Madrid. Obviously, nobody there knows what they are doing.
I for one, don't think that Porto will miss Falcao that much.
Unlike many, I rejoice in seeing a ton Portuguese players playing abroad. It's incredible how many Portuguese players are "World Class" and wanted by so many "Big" clubs.
Atletico Madrid being the exception.
