Dragons linked with swoop for Welliton
Porto to bolster strike force?
Many expected FC Porto to buy another striker after selling Falcao in the summer, but the Dragons decided to rely on Kleber and Walter. Given the youthfulness of the former and the perceived attitude problems of the latter since arriving in Portugal over a year ago, it now appears the Portuguese champions are looking to strengthen in that department in the January transfer window.
According to Russian website Life Sports, Porto have enquired about the availability of another Brazilian striker, Welliton. The site claims the Dragons are willing to pay seven million euros for the 24-year-old forward.
“FC Porto have contacted Spartak in relation to Welliton. Given the player’s reluctance to stay in Russia, there is a strong possibility that negotiations between the clubs will be successful,” a club source reportedly told the publication.
Welliton has been a prolific marksman in Russia, scoring 56 goals in 89 league appearances for the Moscovites. He was top scorer in Russia in the 2009 season. Porto have made no comment on the speculation.
