Manuel Machado predicts brilliant future for Ruben Micael
“He will impose himself at Porto and can make it abroad”
Manuel Machado, the coach who oversaw Ruben Micael’s rise to fame, has given the new FC Porto signing a ringing endorsement. The coach believes the former Nacional midfielder will continue to impress at Porto and suggested that a move abroad could be in the offing in the future.
Porto yesterday completed the purchase of Micael from Nacional. The Dragons paid 3 million euros for 60% ownership of the player. The Madeira born Micael put pen to paper on a four and a half year contract, which includes a buyout clause of 30 million euros.
“He’s a player who in 15 months, coming from the Second Division B (third tier), imposed himself on the league and progressed in individual terms in a way that is far from normal,” Machado said on Portuguese radio station Antena 1.
“He still has room for improvement, but today he is a very complete player in all aspects of the game. I’m happy that he has a new exciting project in his career. I believe he will make it at FC Porto and help the club achieve its objectives.
“When I said goodbye to him I told him that he can look to other markets, owing to the characteristics he has, his capacity to work. He can impose himself at Porto and at the same time look to markets such as Italy, Germany or England in the future.
“Everything will depend on his adaptation to his new club of a different dimension. He adapted well from Division Two to the top flight and I believe he’ll do the same now.”
