FC Porto set to snap up ‘gladiator’ Kleber

Long-term Brazilian target to boost Dragons’ attack

KleberFC Porto are on the verge of completing the capture of Brazilian striker Kleber, a long-term target of the Dragons. The forward, nicknamed the Gladiator, will cost the Portuguese champions around 7 million euros.

Kleber is a well-built forward who has been compared to Hulk given his all-action playing style and temperamental streak. It will not be the striker’s first foray into Europe. The 26-year-old played for Ukrainian outfit Dynamo Kiev for four years earlier in his career.

The Cruzeiro forward had been close to penning a contract at the Estadio do Dragao in the summer, but the deal broke down owing to the Brazilian club’s high asking price of 10.5 million euros.

But Kleber has had an indifferent season which has led to a fractious relationship with Cruzeiro’s fans. Moreover, the company EMS, which invested several million euros for part ownership of the player, have been pushing hard for his sale.

Palmeiras recently pulled out of a possible transfer and now Cruzeiro are reportedly happy to lower their initial asking price.

I remember him when he was playing for Dynamo Kyiv...He didn't score even 1 goal in Champions League.I think that he is good only in Brazil, not in Europe.

I've seen him playing before Champions League with Dinamo and he looked good... the bad thing is that Farias will leave the club soon. I think I was the few Porto supporters that liked Farias. But I can understand this move, Farias are gettin' older and Kleber is ready to fight for place on 11th with Falcao
Lack of natural talent

Portugal national team is built with foreign players. It's not just nationalised players but players who are from previous colonies and other countries. Bosingwa is from Congo; Pepe, Deco, Liedson are from Brazil, Rolando and Nani are from Cape Verde Islands. Our apparent greatest player of all time was from Mozambique. The problem is that Portugal rarely produce natural Portuguese talent. Our 'Golden Era' consisted of Luis Figo, Rui Costa, Fernando Couto and Joao Pinto of which Figo was arrogant and overrated, Couto was never really efficient and Joao Pinto was the biggest diver football produced. Admittedly, we do have some natural talent; Ronaldo, Meireles, Alves, Carvalho... but the truth is there does not appear to be natural talent coming out of Portugal. Our under 21's are nothing special. I went to Wembley to see them play and England dominated the match. Until laws come into place installing restrictions on the number of registered foreign players, Portugal will have to rely on the foreign nationalists

I Don't know why,,there are many teams in liga sagres who always count on foreign striker in their squad especially brazilian player,,you know why Portugal NT now is lacking of great local striker?yes this is the reason why...there are many portugal clubs that always try to keep signing foreign striker more than signing a young local striker, teams like sporting braga, benfica,fc porto, uniao leiria, nacional,,(as for Sporting CP).I think they are really brazilian players admirer..they always rely and count on their foreign striker and midfielder in their squad than a local player,,this is why portugal NT really hard to find a great local striker not only in a foreign league but also in liga sagres..there are already too much foreign striker in liga sagres especially brazilian,,here my expectation goes : i hope next time liga sagres to develop more local player and find many young talent of local player than a foreign player especially in striker position..i believe portugal have many great local strikers ..so someday we can find a portugal NT without a naturalised player,,now we have 3..i don't want this to be continued next time, stop using a naturalised player especially in striker position,,i don't want portugal NT judged by everybody as a brazil B team, hope my expecatation come true..
