Porto snap up Ghanaian starlet David Addy
“This is the happiest day of my life”
FC Porto dipped into the transfer market on deadline day to complete the purchase of Ghanaian left-back David Addy. The 19-year-old signs from Danish side Randers FC and has penned a contract at the Estadio do Dragao until the end of the 2012/13 season.
The African, who was part of the Ghana team that won the recent World Youth Cup, could hardly contain his delight at signing for the Portuguese champions.
“I’m up in the clouds having signed for a club as big as FC Porto. After the U20 World Cup I heard rumours that FC Porto were interested, but now it was a big surprise as I thought they had forgotten about me,” said Addy.
“I have the ambition to play at the highest level, I want to help the club win trophies. I can say that this is the happiest day of my life. Signing for a club like Porto is a source of pride.”
Addy made a point of thanking his former employees, saying that he would never forget the role the Danish club played in his career. “I love Randers, the club, the city and the fans – I’m going to miss them all. I promise to return and visit whenever possible.”
The new Porto number 23 will provide competition for Alvaro Pereira for the left-back spot.
