Guimaraes land Joao Paulo

Defender signs three-year deal

JoaPaulo110506.jpgVitoria Guimaraes continue to fine-tune their squad ahead of the transfer deadline as the club announced that they have signed the former FC Porto stopper to a multi-year deal.

The 29-year-old was without a club after having rescinded his contract with French club Le Mans earlier this summer due to a wage dispute. Being a free agent,  Vitoria wasted little time in snapping up the central defender.

"I am very motivated to have returned and play in the Portuguese championship," stated the one-time Uniao de Leiria man. "That being said, it is stimulating for any player to represent a club the size of Vitoria's. I expect to contribute to the success of this team."

Joao Paulo will most likely fill the void left by Moreno, who joined Leicester City earlier this month.

I’m looking forward to the start of this season. The big 3 look great but outside of that even the mid table teams like Braga, Guimaraes, Nacional, and Maritimo can keep things interesting. Our bottom half of the league has struggled but I’m finding overall the league continues to get stronger which makes for some great games.

As for the article and Guimaraes, that nice cash injection from ManU should give them the ability to sign a couple of good players. Picking up an experienced defender like Paulo on free transfer was a great move for them.
