Guimaraes look to earn positive result

Team likes their chances against Benfica

NunoAssis281004.jpgIt will be an action packed weekend in the Liga Sagres as Braga host Sporting to open the round, Porto travel to Madeira to face Nacional and Benfica renew their rivalry with Vitoria Guimaraes at the Estadio da Luz on Saturday.

The vimarense have not been on the right side of their results lately as the team have only won one match out of their last five and were eliminated from the Portuguese and Carlsberg Cups in the process.

Despite the poor run of form, Guimaraes always manage to raise their game and play their Lisbon foes tough. The two have already met three times this season and have split the series with an even goal difference.

Talismanic midfielder Nuno Assis knows that the matches between the two have been close, therefore is confident that Guimaraes can come away with, at least, a point against his former club.

"After a series of less than positive results, the match against Benfica, a big club and candidate for the championship, could be positive and, as a result, important to get a good result," said Assis.

"Our matches against Benfica have always been extremely balanced as it is always difficult to face them because they are a great team and are very strong when they play at home. But the last few meetings with Benfica has given us strength."

i think its obvious to everything they were unlucky with chances against pacos. and they also had a perfectly good goal disallowed. they got robbed 2 points

and also the first match against benfica was in pretty bad conditions which made it a toss up. next time around at the dragao it will be different.

Your funny, I would worry about Porto losing points away to National after they struggled with the worst team in the league last week. Benfica should have learned their lesson and unlikely to take this game lightly.

I can't wait for the next Benfica v. Porto game, last time we won with a B team, this time I hope the main squad gets to play and shows them a good scoreline :)

Benfica hasn't lost a home league game, but they lost at home to Guimaraes for the Portuguese Cup but I'm sure Benfica are much aware this time.

Benfica hasn't been defeated at home. I don't think it'll happen anytime soon.
