“We want to enjoy this” - Hercules’ Tiago GomesMidfielder delighted with victory Newly promoted Hercules provided one of the biggest shocks likely to occur in the Spanish league this season last night when they beat champions Barcelona 2-0 at Camp Nou.
A goal in either half from Paraguay striker Nelson Valdez gave the Alicante side an unlikely victory over Pep Guardiola’s men, and securing their first points of the season in the process. At the heart of the action as Portuguese midfielder Tiago Gomes, who provided an assist for the second goal, perfectly picking out Valdez with a cutback to the edge of the area just before the hour mark. “I am happy we won, happy to have set up a goal and to have played well,” said former Estrela Amadora man Gomes, who helped Hercules achieve promotion last season. “When we went out on the pitch, we did so to win, as we do in all games. Of course we know that the chances of winning were small, perhaps only 10% versus 90% in Barca’s favour. But we knew we were excellently prepared tactically and could take advantage of any mistakes they made. “It is not every day you beat Barcelona, and we want to enjoy this.” By Sean Gillen Keep up to date with all the latest news on Portuguese football with the new PortuGOAL Twitter! |

Even before this win i knew Hercules were strong team with a good attitude. They may not make the top 4, but mark my words they will not be relegated this year.
