Inter’s Quaresma not thinking of Portugal return

Winger wishes Seleccao luck

Ricardo Quaresma looks certain to leave newly-crowned European champions Internazionale this summer. However, the winger insists he is keen to continue his career outside of Portugal.

The 26-year-old has endured a tough spell in Italian football since a big-money move from Porto in the summer of 2008. Quaresma has made just 32 appearances for Inter over the last two years, having spent the second half of the 2008/09 campaign on loan at English Premier League side Chelsea.

It appears inevitable that the former Sporting man will move on before the start of the new season, with Genoa and Turkish club Besiktas strongly linked with a swoop earlier this month. Benfica have also been mentioned as a possible destination, but Quaresma says he has no plans to return home this summer.

“I have spoken to my agent and he knows what I want,” Quaresma said. “Right now, I am not thinking about going back to Portugal. I have the quality to continue playing abroad and this is what I will continue to do.”

Quaresma’s troubles in Italy have also had an impact on his international career, with the winger never really in contention for a place in Carlos Queiroz’s World Cup squad. Although disappointed not to be considered, the player says he holds no grudges over his exclusion from the party for South Africa.

“I wish Portugal the best of luck at the World Cup. I’m not going to get into conflict with anyone. I have not played much but I don’t think that is a reason not to be involved. I have never doubted my ability. It is the choice of the coach and I must have respect for that.”

Actually, the Turkish league is better than the Portuguese Liga , Galatasaray won the UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup, Galatasaray also defeated Benfica in the 2008/2009 UEFA Cup 2-0 in Portugal so, yeah. We have many more big stars, the fans are WAY better, the stadiums are bigger. Turkey has much more money than Portugal , we have a bigger population, nicer cities, better historical places to visit. All around Turkey is a better place than Portugal, but the Portuguese National Team is better than Turkey's.

quaresma should go play for man utd along side nani that would be the best thing for him and the fact that he would be coached by sir alex fergeson is a great idea! I would also love him to come back to fc porto thats my dream but it aint gonna happen, whatever he does good luck to him

Go to Spain and play for a good midtable team like Villareal. You need to be a focal point of some team's attack where u will have the freedoms to do your thing and get back your confidence while showing people and yourself that you can do it on a big stage like La Liga.

After watching the game vs Cape Verde today quaresma should be on the team over veloso,raul meireles, tiago got hurt so him too. I do not want to argue my opinion but I really am so disappointed with the way portugal played today. I can't imagine quaresma could not have created something that those guys I mentioned earlier failed to do. I understand he plays as a winger and we have enough but if something happeneds to simao or nani we are in trouble. I would rather bring up quaresma or moutinho then those guys.

nothing unhumble? who is he to dictate what teams he plays for?.....thats his problem he could have gone to united with ronaldo but he choose barca....he could have gone to atletico or other teams he choose inter...."I have not played much but I don’t think that is a reason not to be involved" lol really? thats not a reason to be excluded? why didnt scolari like him either? there has to be an attitude/work ethic issue there because there is no talent issue....why is that when hes the main focus he is excellent(porto) but when he has to be a part of a team(everywhere else he has played) he seems lost....i understand people whant him to be great as do i but he wouldnt be the first portuguese player with this problem i.e. dominguez, dani,peixe etc

I agree that he should've gone here during the winter transfer window. I hope he goes there now. At least he'll get a chance to play. I still want to see him revive his career because I know he has great skill. He needs to get back his confidence. I'm sure he really wanted to be at this world cup too.

Just think, this could've been the year that we had two players of Ronaldo's caliber on either side of the field. Can you imagine if 2 of the top 3 players in the world were from Portugal? How special that would have been. Instead, he has rotted away on the bench for the last two seasons. So disappointing.

I have heard that he is going to Turkey, but the portuguese league is much better. If his excuse is that he wants to play in an elite league, why go to Turkey. The only thing I can think of is maybe a high salary. If he want's to play in a good league, he should move to Spain.

The league is perfect for a skillfull winger like Quaresma. He could play on a team like Atletico or Sevilla and get a lot more playing time. There are very few skillfull wingers in the very disciplined and defensive serie a.

I've been keeping a good eye on Inter this year and I'm just disappointed that Quaresma he doesn't even dress. I remember watching the Coppa Italia final against Roma and when they won at he recieved his medal all depressed with headphones on. Quaresma needs to find another team why didn't he go to Genoa when he had the chance.

Nothing really un-humble about this article and what he said. Just because he doesn't wanna return to Portugal or thinks he should be involved in NT play doesn't mean he isn't humble. Matter of fact he even gave props to "The Special One" the last few weeks saying that he was a great coach yada yada yada. He surely doesn't belong on the NT but hopefully wherever he goes he will be able to play. But if he goes to Bestikas in Turkey he might as well come back to Portugal.
