Last-gasp Makukula back with a goal in Turkey

Kayserispor 1-1 Genclerbirligi

The Turkish Super Lig resumed this weekend after a one-month stoppage, and it took Portuguese striker Ariza Makukula little time to pick up where he left off before the winter break.

The on-loan Benfica forward was the undoubted revelation of the first half of the season, leading the league goalscoring charts with 13 goals with just 17 rounds of the campaign played as Kayserispor threatened the top places.

On Sunday afternoon, Kayserispor hosted Genclerbirligi at the Kayseri Kadir Has Stadium, and Makukula was again decisive as he earned his side a point with a late equaliser. Burhan Eser had given the visitors the lead midway through the second period, but Makukula responded with just seconds left on the clock to take his season tally to fourteen league goals.

The result sees Kayserispor stay in fourth place, which would secure European qualification, while the club remain just five points adrift of leaders Fenerbahce.
