Video: Makukula fires Kayserispor to victoryKayserispor 1-0 Trabzonspor Ariza Makukula was back on the goal trail last night, scoring a last-minute winner for Kayserispor against Trabzonspor to move his side up to 6th place in the Turkell Super Lig.
The on-loan Benfica man was in the right place at the right time to fire home after Trabzonspor goalkeeper had parried substitute Omer Sismanoglu’s centre. The goal came as the clock struck ninety minutes, and the resulting victory brought an end to Kayserispor’s four-match winless run. Makukula’s men now occupy 6th place in the table, but Kayserispor are seven points off the top four positions, which offer the reward of continental football for next season. For the Portuguese striker, it was his 18th goal of the season, putting him seven ahead of his nearest rival at the top of the goalscoring charts. We all know for certain that Liedson and Almeida will be there and while I personally think it would be in our best interest to have someone like Makukula as our 3rd striker, it will simply depend on the formation I think.
Also, he certainly is in great form and that's not debatable since being the top goalscorer in any league is impressive even if it's in Turkey, however, he has not had any playing time with the Seleccao in a long time. I really think that may hurt his chances too. In the end, I would certainly feel hard done by if I were him and missed out on the world cup.
He is doing everything right by scoring as many goals as he can. I think his size and physicality would make him tough to handle and Portugal need that kind of player in my opinion.
You can't ignore him anymore. I didn't really want to see him on the team. But at this point, I think it is Liedson, Almeida, and Makukula for the forwards. Sorry N. Gomes.
I do think its a bit late for any major changes like this before the tournament but I still think they should have Makukula as a back up.
