This weekend he became the first Vietnamese footballer to play in the Portuguese League, taking part in the 3-2 victory over Uniao de Leiria. And Vinh has no regrets about his decision.
“I’m in one of the best championships on the planet and I feel good. It was difficult to understand the coach Jose Mota at the start, because he speaks very fast, but Cameroonian team-mate Pouga translated for me,” said Vinh.
“Now, after my period of adaptation, during which I received good support from the coach and my team-mates, I can say I’m ready to help the team.”
Attacking attributesThe striker was recommended to Leixoes by Vietnam’s Portuguese coach Henrique Calisto, who believes Vinh, voted the best Vietnamese player in 2004, 2006 and 2007, has what it takes to make it in Portugal.
“He’s a very ambitious player. Jose Mota watched some videos of him and liked what he saw. His main attributes are his speed, technique and ability to play in any position in attack. He also has the strong character you need to succeed abroad.”
