Liga Sagres Transfer News Vol. XI

Luisao irate with Benfica, Sporting, Diego Tardelli & more

Luisao-Celebs20071125.jpgI am quite certain that the smiles have yet to be wiped off the faces of all Portugal supporters worldwide after the thumping win against North Korea. Albeit, it was nice to see, let's keep our focus and aim on the bigger prize, and now for some domestic news.

Where to begin, where to begin? I know, Benfica. The Lisbon club has annoyed its captain as Luisao has blasted the club after having found out, through the newspapers, that Atletico Madrid are interested in signing him.

"I cannot say that I am happy with the situation because I have dedicated myself every day for the last seven years for this club. This is where the irritation lies. With regards to the interest from Atletico Madrid, I feel that it is a door to be opened and a dream of mine, as well as my family's, to compete in one of the best leagues."

Ouch! Stay tuned as I am sure this is far from over.

One player who will not be playing at the Estdao da Luz is Uruguayan Jonathan Urretaviscaya. The South American will be loaned out to Deportivo La Coruna for the year.

It may be a homecoming for goalkeeper Quim as the Benfica number one is perking the interest of Sporting Braga. It has been reported that the netminder re-joined the club where he launched his career, but president Antonio Salvador has not confirmed that a deal has been struck, although he admits the Arsenalistas are very interested in signing the 34-year-old.

Having already signed 23-year-old Poilsh goalkeeper Bialkowski, and with Quim set to join Braga's ranks, not to mention Kieszek already on the books, it lends credence to the belief that Eduardo will be leaving the Arsenalistas.

Braga were not done yet as the club also signed defender Leo Fortunato, on loan from Cruzeiro, and former Vitoria de Setubal striker Keita to a three-year deal.

One player who will not be with the club is midfielder Fernando Alexandre. The former Estrela da Amadora player will be loaned out to Olhanense for the season.

We all know about FC Porto's new addition, Souza, as the Dragoes paid 3.5 million euros for 75% of the ex-Vasco da Gama player's rights and  the midfielder has signed a deal which will keep him at the club until 2015.

As one arrives, another leaves. Goalkeeper Nuno Espirito Santos and the club rescinded the shot-stopper's contract by mututal consent.

Here's a bit of news hot of the wire - Atletico Mineiro president, Alexandre Kalil, just posted on Twitter that he did receive an offer for Diego Tardelli, but would not say who it was from and that it was "not interesting."

Sporting are looking to Argentina for their next recruit as Velez Sarsfield's Marco Torsiglieri is expected to be the club's next signing. The Argentine club posted on their website that the central defender is due to arrive in Lisbon to undergo routine medical exams.

Vitoria Guimaraes are experiencing a revoltuion of sorts, as the club allowed striker Roberto to leave and sign for Asteras Tripolis.

Rio Ave welcome back striker Saulo after speniding last season with Celta de Vigo. He put pen to paper on a one-year deal. Leaving the club will be striker Chidi as the Nigerian has signed for Cyprus side Olympiakos Nicosia.

Phew!  Gawd, what time is it?

Good night my little Portugoalers? Portugoalese? Portugoalians? Portugoal-do-diddily-inos? Ah, forget it, you tell me.

I would hate to see Luisao go, especially since his contract was reworked before the beggining of last season. If you remember Fiorentina came calling, so Benfica increased his wages. You would think that he would know that the club doesn't want to separt with him. Benfiquistas love him, so I'm a little surprised by his reaction.

I know of all the denials of Benfica going after Eduardo, but I don't think that's done yet. Amelia, a target, has signed as Milans new goalie, so he's out.
