Academica-Olhanense leave it lateAcademica 1-1 Olhanense After producing a stunning upset last week in the opening round of the Liga ZON Sagres, Academica got a taste of their own medicine as the Estudantes coughed up a late lead to allow Olhanense earn a share of the spoils.
Academica had sealed a shock win in the dying seconds against Benfica last week and were made to feel the disappointment this time around as the Coimbra-based club gave up a goal when an assured victory looked certain. A very quiet first-half only produced one scoring opportunity as Diogo Valente's free kick in the 15th minute took a deflection and struck the post. Miguel Fidalgo almost replicated his heroics from last week, but saw his header go into the side of the net shorlty after the re-satrt. Olhanense's Yontcha came close to scoring before full-time, but the striker's effort rattled the crossbar. Just when it seemed that both teams would play to a scorless draw, Diogo Gomes headed Junior Paraiba's cross, at the 90th minute, to what most believed another Academica victory. But the late drama was to continue as Olhanense were awarded a penalty when Eder was adjudged for a handball. Yontcha stepped up to the spot and easily converted the penalty to end the contest.
