Braga snatch point in Minho derbyPaulo Vinicius the hero at the Henriques Braga left it late but managed to earn themselves a point in Monday evening’s Minho derby against Vitoria de Guimaraes. The home side took the lead through Edgar just before the half hour mark, but were denied the points by a late header from Paulo Vinicius.
Leonardo Jardim made just one change from Braga’s midweek Europa League win in Birmingham, with Leandro Salino replacing Nuno Gomes in the attacking midfield trio. Rui Vitoria handed veteran playmaker Nuno Assis a starting role, whilst Urreta, on loan from Benfica, was fielded on the right wing only to injure himself during the warm-up – the Uruguayan was replaced by Faouzi. Braga had more of the ball in the opening stages, but a fierce Lima half-volley which Nilson tipped around the post aside, failed to convert their possession into meaningful openings. Guimaraes were more circumspect, with Assis struggling to get into the flow of a fairly speedy contest. Ewerton ought to have opened the scoring for Braga after fifteen minutes, but the centre-back could only direct his header wide after Hugo Viana sent in a pinpoint free kick. Edgar on target It was therefore something of a surprise when the home side took the lead, just before the half hour mark. A long ball forward from Joao Paulo found Faouzi, and the Moroccan wriggled free into space before sending in a perfectly weighted reverse pass for Edgar, who shot low underneath the legs of Quim. The game was then interrupted for a short while after a flare was thrown onto the pitch (from the Guimaraes end), and landed close to Quim – who could clearly be seen making his feelings known to the massed crowd behind him. Lima saw a low free kick gathered by Nilson once play restarted, but it was Rui Vitoria’s men who left the field for half time in the lead. Leonardo Jardim sent Nuno Gomes on in place of Leandro Salino for the second half, but the introduction of the veteran centre forward did little to improve the quality of Braga’s finishing. Alan was denied by a point blank range stop from Nilson in the early moments, but that moment of inspiration didn’t prove to be a trend-setter, as both sides failed to produce much in the way of goalmouth action. Referee Pedro Proneca was a central protagonist, dishing out a number of bookings for offences ranging from the petty to the deserving. Guimaraes might have hit Braga on the counter as full time neared, but Faouzi misplaced his pass, and the move broke down. Heartbreak for VitoriaJust as it looked as if Rui Vitoria was going to enjoy his second win in three matches, Braga equalised. Alan sent in a free kick from the left touchline, and Paulo Vinicius rose high to flick a header home beyond Nilson. It was a somewhat unexpected blow to Guimaraes, who had at least stood firm, though they admittedly did not seek a second with any great intent. The hard-fought draw sees Braga move onto eleven points, two behind the leading duo of Porto and Benfica.Goals [1-0] Edgar, 29’ [1-1] Paulo Vinicius, 83’ Ben Shave |

This season : Player nearly injured by firecracker thrown on pitch.
Supporters attack their own players
Last season: Presidents car attacked and vandalized. Team bus attacked
2010: On arrival in Braga. Guimaraes fan sets off flare inside bus on arrival to stadium. Supporters break back window of bus to escape the smoke(I actually witnessed this. Comical in its stupidity.
2006/07? Fans attack their own player Anchouet outside hotel
2006: Braga Players bus attacked on return to Braga. Two players injured. Castanheira taken to hospital for injuries.
Just a small list of how your fans end up doing nothing but giving your club a bad name... And for anybody who saw your pre match show on Monday.. It shows how big a rival you consider Braga these days the amount of work that went into the choreography. The fans from Braga find it funny that you would dedicate so much time in something like that.
There's just one simple question. What clubs supporters are disliked by every single club in the country?
Guimaraes receive far fewer visitors than any other club because of one reason. The fear of violence.
We don't need to tear your club down. I would like Guimaraes in second place just behind Braga. But your President is doing a good enough job to drag the club down himself.. Along with the help of the fans..
I actually understand when they might not react to something, but they don't even handle that right. Nobody is able to put together a reasonable comment, in order to make it look good. Unfortunately it's par for the course in Portugal.
I admit in rooting for Guimares, but their fans are being as stupis as the "Big 3's". It's going to take a player to get seriously hurt due to a flare, bottle or even golf ball.
The FPF will do nothing because if the same goes on at the Dragao that went on last year they would be forced to do something then as well.
Yes, I know, the same stupidity went on at the Luz.
Let me add that Guimaraes should have played this match in the dark, due to the fans attacking the players in training. Yes the team should suffer the loss of ticket revenue as well, for not protecting their players sufficiently.
On a brigther note... I got to wish Eduardo a Happy Birthday and had a piece of his birthday cake...
Hasn't been bad weekend.. Braga winning in England.. Ireland beating Australia in the World Cup(at the fifth attempt), Dublin winning the All Ireland final(first sincve 1996) and Braga drawing in Guimaraes..Not bad..
Braga didnt paly well.. Europa league hangover as usual but at least we scored.. happy with a point..
