Olhanense surprise Braga at the Quarry

Braga 1-2 Olhanense

braga-disappointment-20120428.jpgOn the exact day the club celebrated 100 years of existence, Olhanense produced a fine performance to come from behind and beat Braga 2-1 at the AXA Stadium. The Arsenalistas have earned just one point from their last four matches, and are now at risk of being caught by Sporting in third, the position that gives access to the qualifying stages of the Champions League.

Braga were on top in the first half and went into the break with a deserved lead thanks to a Nuno Andre Coelho header in the 19th minute.

The game exploded into life in the second half, with chances at both ends. Caue and Dady scored on 57 and 74 minutes respectively for the visitors. Braga suffered a further setback soon after falling behind as Douglao was sent off for vehemently protesting the decision to rule out a goal he had scored in an offside position.

Ten-man Braga continued to pour forward and Fernando Alexandre stopped what looked like a certain goal with a goal-line clearance from a Nuno Gomes effort.

Should Sporting beat Academica on Monday the Lisbon outfit will move to within three points of Braga with two matches remaining. On the final day of the season Braga travel to Sporting for what could be the decider with regards to the last Champions League berth.

Leonardo Jardim, Braga coach:

“The equalising goal was decisive. From that moment we lost control. Our decisions were not the best, we created several chances but we didn’t manage to score. There was a loss of emotional control because after a cycle of many victories we came into the match on a run of three games without a win. At the moment we can’t get the win despite dominating matches and creating goalscoring chances.”

Sergio Conceicao, Olhanense coach:

“I want to congratulate Olhanense, who celebrate 100 years today and who have managed the historic feat of reaching 35 points. Congratulations also to Braga. It was a great game, between two great teams and perhaps the fair result would have been a draw.”

Oh, oh.
No ref bashing yet?
I saw the goal highlights, but couldn't find the controversial off sides or red card yet.

The question I have, shouldn't Douglao have had better composer, so he wouldn't get thrown out?
If he should have, let's hold him accountable please.

The good news for the Aldeia is that they have already defeated Sporting in league play, so a draw would suffice on the last day.
