Video: Eliseu sent off after wonder goal as Malaga beatenMalaga 2-3 Villarreal Portuguese international Eliseu was sent off before half time in Malaga’s defeat to Villarreal this evening. The winger had earlier put his team ahead in a match that saw five goals and a red card before the break.
Jesualdo Ferreira’s Malaga came into the game having yet to record a point at home in La Liga so far this season. Curiously, the Andalucian side have won both of their away fixtures, beating Real Zaragoza 5-3 at La Romareda and winning 2-0 at Getafe in midweek. That luck at home appeared to have a good chance of changing when Eliseu put Malaga ahead against Villarreal in just the fourth minute at La Rosaleda. Apono slipped the ball to the Azorean on the edge of the box with a free-kick and Eliseu hammered an unstoppable left-footed drive into the roof of the net. The visitors drew level through Santi Carzola’s deflected shot after twenty minutes, and Giuseppe Rossi put Villarreal ahead shortly after with a cool finish. Malaga tied the game at 2-2 thanks to Jose Rondon’s header on the half hour, but Carzola had Villarreal back in front with his second on 34 minutes. Things turned sour five minutes before half time when Eliseu received his marching orders following a tussle with Carlos Marchena. The Spanish international went down holding his face after the pair squared up, and referee Texeira Vitienes issued the winger a red card for violent conduct. With ten men, Jesualdo Ferreira’s side were unable to breach the Villarreal defence again in the second period. Edinho was not called from the substitutes bench by the Portuguese coach, who is yet to taste victory at home with his new side. Shameful!"
Did you happen to say the same thing about Pepe a season back when proceeded to kick a fallen opponent twice: once on his shin and once on his lower back?...Or how about the many times Bruno Alves got away with murder for his reckless tackles in Porto?...Its only Benfica who do things wrong right?
Shameful!
This was just like Busquets acting during the Champions League semi vs Inter. His acting got Motta sent off and it ruined the 2nd leg match.
FIFA, UEFA and all of the FA's have to take a look at footage and fine and suspend obvious flopping by players.
I actually get players dragging a foot in order to get a call. The defender should have his foot/leg out there in order to create the contact in the first place.
The hands to the head/face is now being over used by floppers. The refs have to honor it due to the possible seriousness of injury.
It will have to be up to the FA's to punish the culprits after the matches.
