Bebe struggling to impress at United - report

Forward yet to feature in England

Manchester United’s latest recruit from Portugal, Bebe, has found it tough to make an impression during the early stages of life at Old Trafford, according to a report in England.

The 20-year-old forward joined United from Vitoria Guimaraes earlier this month in for a fee believed to be around €9m. The move caused widespread shock in Portugal, as few had heard of the former Estrela da Amadora man, who had signed for Vitoria just weeks beforehand.

According to The Guardian, Bebe has been less than convincing during his first training sessions with Alex Ferguson’s side. The Portuguese was expected to join several first team players, including former Porto midfielder Anderson, in taking part in a reserve team match against Manchester City on Wednesday evening.

However, The Guardian states that, after conversations with reserve team boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, it was decided to leave Bebe out of the match, with the report adding that “the first impressions of Bebé have been below expectations. In particular, his touch and control has not been of the standard the club demands.”

Ferguson admitted when the club unveiled Bebe that he had never seen the player in action, be it live or on video, and that it was first time in his managerial career that a signing had been made purely on scouting recommendations.

Take everything you read about United in the press with a pinch of salt.... Now throw that pinch headlong into a gale and whatever grains you can find may well be the real truth!!!!
This is a young lad who has come from nowhere and nothing having joined a portugese 3rd division club and now thrust into one of the biggest clubs in the world in a completely different culture, country and language They said he would need time and just because the press want a quick decision so they can pass judgement... thankfully we have coaches not so quick!! He may not make it, we may well have a future world player.... He'll need at least 6-12mnths to adjust to english life, adjust to how a professional english club runs, training methods, nutrition controls, exercises to adjust to prem life and press criticism... everyone bad-mouthing united; just get real.....
Desculpe, Peço desculpa, mas...

I don't know what to think exactly about this information to be honest. I have watched a few videos of his highlights on youtube and he does seem like the control is not there. I am not saying he is done but I can totally see what Ole means. I think the scout in portugal saw a big strong fast portuguese guy who could man handle the 3rd division on had his mind up prematurely about this guy. Playing in the 3rd division and growing up in the streets is no where nears be able to play with the reserves on manchester. Even if he is superior in terms of his athletic ability over the other players they have the tactical skills that he never developed as a youth and that is when you learn a lot about the game. Guys like Carvalho or Cannavaro have lost some pace but they have the marking skills and tactical approach where they will still shut down a 20 year old track star. I am not saying he is done but really 20 is not that young when you consider the players today. He has macheda, welbeck, chicharito, fabio, rafael and cleverley all guys younger then him who have already played 1st team ball and have looked good. Sometimes being a street player is just that, he might just be a street player. Most great players grew up in the streets playing but they were quickly enrolled into academys by the age of 12 and that is when you learn tactics and discipline. When Ole says his touch is off it could be nerves but it also could be that Bebe is noticing now that he might not be as good as he thinks and he can't get away with just being a freakish athlete. Good luck though we need forwards badly for the seleccao.
Just give him time

I have a hard time believing that they would've signed him at all if there wasn't SOME potential there. He just needs some time to settle in. After that, we'll see what's up with him.

No, Nani is not going to get less playing time because he missed the penalty. He's payed reasonably well so far, he just has yet to score. Honestly though, he's more of a provider anyway. I'm surprised they let him take the penalty. Have a better attitude, he's been better than Park Ji Sung. He's a valuable player for them and hopefully he can improve his form even more as the season continues.

Manchester United knows talent and they'll help Bebe, one way or the other.

Right on Danny Boy.....

Imagine going from living in a shelter and playing in the streets 1 day, and when you think you're moving up to the Portuguese top league (currently 10th in the World), to being signed to Manchester United!!!!!, no friends, everyone around you talking and you don't understand anything, raining every single day, and on top of that they expect you to perform like Ronaldo or minimum Nani!!!! forget him, give me a break.
Bad attitude

Please give the lad a break...20 years old, new country, new language, the world's top club...catapulted from the wilderness to the limelight. The lad will shine, and improve. He is a rough diamond. Let him be polished. The media...put them up there and the drag them down by the balls. How long would any normal person take to find their feet in a new job in a different nation?
Bye bye Bebe

I'm sure the training ground there is 10X the regime he is used to. He first has to adapt to English style and get or reestablish his primary rudiments. Quite frankly too, he could be nervous. If he was so good to get this recommendation then he deserves the patience to allow him to adapt to a new environment.
This Is Absolutely Absurd

Bebe has only been at United for a week or two and they are already making judgements on his skill. Bebe is only 20, he has never played top flight football in any country, and he is still not quite used to professional football as he was homeless a few years ago... so with all this is mind, maybe its not Bebe's skill, but simply trouble adjusting to a life that is completely foreign to him. United will probably spend the next few seasons loaning Bebe out and not taking the time to develop him properly, wasting yet another Portuguese talent.

These large teams should do us a favour and keep their hands off our youth if they don't want to give them a proper chance.
Too early to panic

The guy has been there two weeks max. If he is still being left out in October, then it appears that Man U made a bad move.
