Man United players vote Nani Player of the YearPrestigious award for winger Portuguese international Nani has been voted the Players’ Player of the Year by his Manchester United team-mates at the club’s official awards ceremony this evening.
Nani, who has scored 10 goals and provided a further 18 assists during the season, also came in second in the fans’ vote for the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award, losing out to Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez by just one percent in the final count. "I must say thank you very much to my team-mates. It means a lot to win this award," Nani said when receiving the prize. "My team-mates have helped me a lot this season. That’s why I’m stood here. I have done my best to help the team win the league and, of course, I have been very focused on working hard and improving as a player. "This has been my most consistent season for United. Every year I’ve been here I have improved and this one was fantastic for me. I created a lot of goals and scored more than last season, so I’m very happy. I hope to do even better next season." You can say that Nani was key to the beggining of the season. You can actually say that he carried the club at times. Man United didn't lose, but they had a ton of draws and struggled mightly. Talk about winning ugly.
That being said, as the season wore on Nani once again became inconsistant in his play. He all of a sudden seemed to care more about shooting than setting up teamates. He did finish kind of strong, but he still needs to bring it all together.
Please keep in mind that Valencia always started on the right, which moved Nani to his least favorite left side. It was Valencia's injury that allowed Nani to go back to the right.
I thought that Edwin van der Sar (the deserving winner) Berbs or Hernandez whould have gotten the award.
As for him leaving, I don't see it. I know that Man United has already stated that they would be very active in the transfer market, which is unsusal. The club definately needs an influx of talent, and I'm really curious in which direction they will go.
By the end of the year, Rooney looked more like an attacking mid than striker. Granted he basically roams everywhere, but he was dropping back very far for the ball and covering on defense.
Definitely a Portuguese legend in the making.
Good luck with the Champions League final!
To be honest i've been disappointed in SAF not starting him in some big games. I'd like to see him move to a team with more portuguese players so he can establish more chemistry for the national team.
