We won't respond to threats - Pereira

Maritimo president blasts FC Porto's conduct over Kleber

kleber_paulojorge.jpgThere apppears no end in sight to the protracted transfer of Kleber to FC Porto as Maritimo will not cave in to the coercion that they are claiming their Liga rivals are using.

The two-time European champions have been trying for weeks to get Brazilian striker Kleber into their ranks, but without success as Maritimo are standing in the way of the move becoming a done deal.

The 20-year-old marksman is owned by Atletico Mineiro, but signed a two-year loan agreement with the verde-rubros, and has entered the second year of his contract.

In order to free him from his contractual obligation with the Madeira club, Maritimo are seeking monetary compensation, which they claim Porto are refusing to pay.

Porto have already settled with Atletico Mineiro by agreeing to shell out 2.5 million euros for 50% of the player's rights, but have yet to convince Maritimo to liberate Kleber from his loan deal.

Maritimo president Carlos Pereira has issued scathing remarks about Porto's demeanour and claims that the Dragoes are meddling and using bullying tactics in an attempt to lure Kleber from the Barreiros as the player abandoned pre-season training with the Madeira side.

"It will not be done with any pressure, not with inducements and not with threats in order to resolve this problem," snapped Pereira. "If it has to be done with threats then we will settle this in the courts."

"Porto would not accept it if Bruno Alves left pre-season training and left the grounds of the institution. Atletico Mineiro would not accept that Tardelli left the instituion or if they took advice from someone or solicitation of someone without consent of the institution to which the athlete is bound."

"Maritimo wants and should be able to use the athlete, but the player left the club. If there is no compliance with the contractual terms, then this becomes a jungle."

Just shut up and name your price. Hey if you look up this gentlemans name you will see he is a Benfica Socio! How is that for Colusion? Realistically with Porto owning the 2.5 Million dollar stake, how much do they really owe Maritimo. Maybe we can lend you one of our players for a discounted rate!
