Forgotten man Makukula heading back to Maritimo?

Portugal striker likely to return to Madeira

MakukulaMaritimo are in prime position to welcome back Portugal international striker Makukula. “I’ve spoken to Makukula and he told me he would like to return,” said Maritimo president Carlos Pereira.

The powerful forward enjoyed a brilliant first half of the 2007/08 season at the Madeira club, forcing his way into the Portugal senior team and earning a big money transfer to Benfica.

But the 27-year-old marksman has had a miserable time since leaving the islanders for Benfica. Makukula failed to impose himself at the Estadio da Luz and had an equally frustrating spell on loan at Premier League club Bolton.

“Makukula is a strong possibility. It’s what both Maritimo and the player himself wants,” revealed Carlos Pereira.

“It’s true that I’ve spoken to Makukula and he told me he would like to return to Maritimo, as it was the club were he was happy, felt affection and felt fulfilled in professional terms.”

“We’ve spoken to Benfica about this matter and let them know our intentions and what the player told us. Now the ball is in Benfica’s court.”

It's a shame

It's a shame that he didn't shine at Benfica or in England and Maritimo wants him back. I remember when he was leading goal scorer and Benfica got him in January and was never the same.
