Carvalhal shown the door

Maritimo sack Portuguese coach

carvalhal_thumbs.jpgAccording to reports in Portugal, Maritimo and coach Carlos Carvalhal have parted ways as the club no longer could withstand the team's poor set of results to start the season.

The writing was on the wall for the former Braga and Vitoria Setubal manager as Carvalhal only managed to earn five points in six matches with the verde-rubros, while losing their third consecutive match against Naval this past Saturday.

Carvalhal was appointed head coach of the Madeira side back in February, when he took over from Lori Sandri, but this season has not gone as planned and the Maritimo board of directors could no longer wait for the team's fortune to turn around after having missed out on a spot in the European competitions this season.

No word has surfaced as to who Carvalhal's replacement will be.
