Predrag Jokanovic appointed Nacional coach until end of seasonSerbian to take over as Manuel Machado recovers from illness Predrag Jokanovic is to take over as Nacional’s head coach until the end of the season. Jokanovic takes the reins from Manuel Machado, who has been hospitalised since 27 November and will not return to work this season.
Serbian coach Jokanovic is not new to the role, having trained Nacional in 2006/07 and 2007/08. “After clarification of the clinical situation of our coach and in anticipation of his absence for a time period that will not be short, the decision has been made to give the squad a new command, thus guaranteeing an identical structure to that under professor Manuel Machado,” explained Nacional president, Rui Alves, on the official club website.
Jokanovic himself is aware that provided all goes well with Machado’s recuperation, he will only be in charge for half a season. “Professor Manuel Machado is the coach of this team and is also my coach. For this reason my hope is that he gets back to full health quickly so that he can take his place as soon as possible.”
Jose Augusto had been in charge on a temporary basis in Machado’s absence, and he now resumes his role of assistant coach.
