Carlos Queiroz: “I’ll lose the beard only when Portugal score two goals!”

Portugal coach’s promise revealed

Carlos QueirozMany were surprised on Saturday night by the sight of Carlos Queiroz sporting the makings a greying beard while taking his place on the bench for the World Cup qualifier against Sweden. It has now emerged that the Portugal head coach made a pledge not to shave until the national team score two goals in a match.

Goalscoring has been the biggest problem for Portugal since Queiroz took over from Luiz Felipe Scolari at the helm of the national team.

Portuguese daily A Bola today revealed that the former Manchester United assistant promised Portugal’s star player and captain, Ronaldo, that he would only shave off his beard when the team scored two goals.

The match against the Swedes ended goalless, thus Queiroz’s facial hair remains, at least until tonight when Portugal take on South Africa in a friendly match.

Should Portugal again fail to hit the mark, and Queiroz sticks to his promise, the 56-year-old will have to wait at least until 6 June and Portugal’s next World Cup qualifying match to present a clean shaven face again!

Portugal's defence once Bosingwa went down was ridiculous... 4 central defenders! playing all the positions - if we had played any attacking team we would have been crushed! the best player on the pitch (Tiago) was substituted for Deco???? we need goals!! coach should have taken of Meireles (spelt wrong) but I'll learn how to spell it right when he becomes a good player - this player was a mess and resulted in messing up the team moving forward. Edinho/Ronaldo upfront in the middle will cause trouble for any team... Nani and Quaresma on the wings - keep Simao in Madrid - don't even let him know there's a game....

If anyone's seen the game between Denmark and Albania tonight, it's pretty obvious how unlucky Portugal have been in their games.

Denmark won 3-0 with the easiest of goals, all mistakes from the keeper. Where was that keeper they had against us??? We must've had around 15 shots on target in that game and nothing would get past him, now this next guy goes in against Denmark and gifts them 3 goals.

That's just the way football is unfortunately.
Puxa!!

Whats going on? We have the skill,We have the players, whats missing? Something Portugal always has... A quality striker! Hugo Almeida is too slow up front, I agree that Edinho Should get more play time, he proved he's got something last night against S.A. For crying out loud, we have a defender scoring our goals!? Queiroz needs to Motivate and Unite Portugal, Like Filipao did, we were flying back then!

Vamos Portugal... COM FORCA!!!!!
Queiroz has got to go

6 pts from 5 games
0 goals in 3 games
Qualification is out of our hands as max points won't even ensure a runner-up spot.

Queiroz has proven that he cannot be a first-rate manager and he has to go...the team hasn't had such a poor qualifying run since '94 (at least they controlled their fate in 98). If he had any integrity, he would admit his failure and resign.

The next coach should not be portuguese, unless Mourinho will take the job. I would kill for Guus Hiddink....
FORCA PORTUGAL

He should shave his head and beard if they score at least one danm goal!!...cmon this team is sooo unorganized, I think that WC 2010 is over, they made theyre mistakes and now they have to pay for it....I dont understand why he keeps using the theory of a lone striker??!!!...why not have a formation of a 4-1-3-2? keep the defenders who they are no changes...have Deco in the middle with Nani and Simao on the wings and C Ronaldo and Edhino up front? give Edhino a shot, see how he makes out vs south Africa....and for heavens sake, dont put Pepe as a 'trinco' in front of the defense..not his natural position...have Tiago there, Meideles is aweful!!...hope they can break this bad luck vs South Africa today...or else we are seriuosly dropping to like 20 in the FIFA rankings...Forca Portugal!!!!
No Way

This means that Queiroz is going to have a very long beard. Scoring even one goal is impossible for Portugal. So, how on earth will Portugal score two goals. You have got to be kidding me. Our match against South Africa, Portugal is done for. They will have a very tough time marking the brutal strength of the Africans.
