Official: FPF suspend Carlos Queiroz

Manager to miss Euro 2012 qualifiers against Cyprus and Norway

Queiroz-Jun10.jpgThe FPF have heard all the evidence and have made their decision. The country's leading footballing body has applied a one-month suspension and a 1000 euro fine against Carlos Queiroz for his actions towards the Anti-doping Authority.

The timing of the decision has to be considered very delicate as Portugal are only weeks away from playing their first two Euro 2012 qualifiers against Cyrpus on 3 September, followed by a visit to Oslo to face Norway four days later.

The suspension results from allegations that Carlos Queiroz verbally abused members of the Anti-doping department when the team was in its training camp in Covilha preparing for the World Cup in South Africa.

An inquiry was opened due to the accusations and now the FPF has pronounced that the former Manchester United assistant was out of line when dealing with the anti-doping members.

Queiroz had a slew of high-profile figures testify on his behalf, which included Sir Alex Ferguson, Figo, Pinto da Costa and Luis Filipe Vieira, who all gave their backing to the Portugal number one.

The decision could have been worse as Queiroz could have lost his position with the FPF, but compelling testimony form the aforementioned names most likely aided in his keeping hold of his job.

Queiroz's assistant, Agostinho Olivieira, has been appointed by the FPF to look after the head coach proceedings for Portugal's next two matches.

I have nothing against Brasil. I have family there and love the country. I do have issues with arrogant idiots who think they are better than everybody else. Portugal does not particulary need a Brasileiro to suceed. Zico has done nothing as a head coach and I'm glad we did not go for him. I think it would be great if we can get Big Phill back. Why you may ask? Because he is a great coach and motivator. Brasil may be the best "historically speaking" team but didn't do anything inpressive in the WC. Your over convidence is your weakness.

I've been saying it for a while. I'd like to see us go with Aragones. Some people might think he is racist because in 06 he told one of his players to go back and tell that N word henry that he is better then them. But he did go with marcos senna the brasilian born. For me I say Aragones. I think a little tiki taka would do some good.

For people who want POrtuguese coach only then there is JOse MAnuel currently Angola coach I beleve. He has talked about the job if it were to be open and he said he would have no problem getting out of currenet contract. This was from rtp site few weeks ago. Scolari jis with Paleirmas in BRasil, Zico as someone alraedy said is taken.

We want to see POrtugal get to that next tier with the likes of Spain, Germany, suppose you could say Dutch at moment because of their WC. Sign Aragones 2 year contract he will get in players faces, get nost from them. Queiroz is great talent evaluator but players don't get inspired from him, he should be Under 17, 19, 21 coach or in role as some scouting department. Time to fight fire with fire bring the tiki taka and get Aragones he will have us playing lovely footy again

N. Anelka midweek called the French Federation Clowns for suspending him. I think that Madail and the FPF are from the same Circus.

this is a joke right??..why in the world would they suspend him???...fire him and replace him with a coach who has some guts to get in the players faces, not kiss their butts...Queidoz is more of a teacher who lets his students run the class, we need someone to go in and grab the players ears and force authority..like Scolari did in 04-08... the question is who??...open to suggestions, I think Dunga isnt that good of a choice...what about like a Paulo Sousa, Paulo Bento?..Scolari part 2?, or Luis Aguardo (sp)?..anyone beside Queidoz, he has showed enough that he isnt the right choice...

This guy is about to hang himself ... after the suspension he came out against the VP of FPF in one interview with a newspaper acccusing the VP of trying to get CQ fired according to the latest reports.

This situation has become dysfunctional and embarassing and quite possible CQ is hanging on a thread. Not sure how you can keep him as coach after all this. I was a CQ supporter because of his ability to develop players and thought and still do think the NT suffers from lack of quality players in certain positions that have nothing to do with coach but player ability.

Anyway, the debate about CQ has been decided by CQ's behavior.

F***IN joke!! If we miss out on the six points coming up I will blame the FPF not CQ. How in the hell does this help the team? Why did they wait so long to get this done? CQ shouldn't be fired - the clowns running the show (FPF) should.

Come on you all see the kind of idiots that are running the fpf, and you still think CQ is the problem . Come on what did you realy expect was going to happen in the world cup we lost to spain who buy the way won the whole shebang in the end if we lost to them in the semi's or the final would you still want him fired. the way i look at it their are three places in the world cup .1 the team that wins the world cup second everyone else who made it out of the group and 3rd everyone who didn't its not his fault big players got hurt so tell me what could he have done differntly and stop with this luis aragones if CQ had been coach of spain he would have won the euro's too ha even maradona could have won with spain not only do i think CQ should not be fired but he should be promoted to president of the fpf i think he is the best person to oversee the overall progress of portugal from developing players at a young level to the NT you might not like him but at least he seems to care about the state of football in portugal and how he can make it better even after he leaves do you think scolari cared about portuguese football or just wanted to do his job get paid and leave when he was done maybe what CQ lacks is personal skills and if thats his problem then blame the players come on they are grown men if they need a coach to understand their feelings they are no better than little girls

I do not know the reason of the hostility to the Brasilian posters.

Brasil still managed to get to the QFs with the burro Dunga in-charge. It is definitely a new Selecao under Menezes. We will win in 2014 and you will be sitting at home eating nice bacalhau.

It is funny how one or two posters criticize the Brasilian style of play when we are the most successful footballing nation.

And to the true Portuguese supporters (not the jealous ones), best wishes.

Portugal need to bring another Brasilian manager...it is the only way they will find success. Even with magnificent players like Eusebio (and in some eyes C.Ronaldo) they have failed to win anything...the closest they came was with Philipao in charge so they should return to that. They missed out Zico last time and now he is with Flamengo upstairs. They should make a move for another out of work Brasilian manager or they can wave good-bye to their EURO hopes.

Good luck, you will need it.

The FPF should have completed their investigation and forwarded it to FIFA. After all, the doping commitee are FIFA reps right?

To address the idiot who identifies themself as Brazil, suck a big fat one. Your boys didn't do much better in the WC. Just a bunch of over hyped dancing fools if you ask me. The only Brazil goal that impressed me was Thiagos own goal. The reason we show support for Brazil is because they are our Luso brothers and not enemies. Where would Brazil be without the Portuguese? Ask yourself that. Oh by the way, go find yourself a Brazilian website to entertain yourself on.
FPF hopes he quits

Some good point by george, supreme , and monah. It is political and I think by suspending Quieroz they are hoping they make him quit do they dont have to pay him the compensation for remaining 2 years. We also havnt heard who will be caretaker for these 2 games. And I read the FPF statement saying that they thought abuses were true which Q never denied but FPF did say no evidence that Quieroz interfered with the testers. These old timers on the Board whole thing makes us Portuguese look bad.

Qeiroz and his attorney will file some sort of appeal so I think he isnt just going to quit Were in some tough shape right now

Man, this is getting ridiculous. The FPF had better realize that they need to quit messing with the players' confidence like this. Fortunately, the 2 matches that he will miss are against beatable teams. Still, who knows how it will affect them. With Denmark in our group, this qualification campaign could easily turn out just like the last one did.

Oh, and "brazil", we don't cheer for you once Portugal crashes out. You guys didn't do anything great in the world cup either so you can suck it. Especially since you are supposedly "so superior" to Portugal, you have no reason to talk. With all that talent, you still underachieved.

what are their next plans?!how shitty are their decisions!!We're 2 weeks away from our first 2 matches in the euro qualification and we're going without a coach.....??!!they just look like not caring about the future of the seleccao...why don't they finalize this issue and assign a new coach...Aragones...or any other...
But it's a national team afforded with highly qualified and world class players...why they're trying to make us look as Sweden or Croatia may be...By the way why don't they try the likes of ZICO or Leonardo...
It just looks like politics in our arab world....nobody can understand anything...and we the fans...we just look and hope for the best while the bosses aren't caring...

Carlos Queiroz has done NOTHING for this national team. I'm sure there are plenty of great coaches who are willing to take on the challenge of coaching the Seleccao. Queiroz is great at spotting young talent, so keep him on as a scout. I just don't understand what the FPF needs in order to fire Queiroz.
DONT MAKE SENSE

this totally doesnt make sense by fpf. why would the fpf go through all this trouble just to suspend a coach. there was alot of media talking. not even fifa got involved in this, which they should have of because it was the fifa games related. if fpf feels that quieroz is not the right coach. why not interview players to question aboout quiroz. now if i was queiroz and i feel that my country federation wants me out of nt coach. i would volunteer to quit because i wouldnt want go thru all this bs.

I was expecting a pink slip and not a dam one month suspension...Why the F is the FPF still keeping this moron around...When will they wake up and realize that his bringing our NT down...I really can't stand the sight of having to watch the idiot at work during important qualifiers again...Maybe Portugal should miss out on Euro 12 because as of this moment it's the only way we will get Failroz off our hands

this is ridicules if you want him to put money in your swear job thats fine with me, but suspending him is stupid if your going to keep him on as coach leave him to coach if your going to fire him then fire him but having him miss two qualifiers doesn't help anyone if they feel they need to spank him, fine him some more money

This is truly pathetic, he is a terrible leader and coach. He should have been fired all together. Portugal has immense talent that wasn't even called up to play just because this asshole prefers name and fame over skill and love for the game.

Now the boys will have to play without guidance and support from the sidelines and in the dressing room. Their decision was to essentially punish the entire team. A large fine alone would have sufficed.

that stubborn fpf and in particular the old burro gilberto Madail. We have golden oppurtunity to go get LUIS ARAGONES and they decide to suspend Queroz and fine him. So instead of getting TOP SHELF INTERNATIONAL COACH in ARAGONES we stick with this clown who proved in WC HE IS INEPT TACTICALLY. ARAGONES WANTED THIS JOB AND WE COULD OF GOT HIM.
SO NOw if we slip up under one of the assustants in september we have to rely one queiroz to get us back. Unbelievable. I'm so so disappointed. Just because you can coach the youth team to youth championships doesn't mean the senior side players you will get best out of them. Damn fpf dropped the ball again. They better hope qualifiers go well. Ahhhh so upset

What a joke! No caoch for two easy qualifying matches. Watch Portugal lose points adn make it really difficult for themselves to qualify for the euro much liek they did for the world cup! Basically they are saying CQ was guilty - They should have either kept him on with no punishment or fired him. Talk about sitting on the fence and jeapordizing their chances....
