Ronaldo out of qualifiers, Quaresma drafted inForward suffers early injury Cristiano Ronaldo will be out of action for two or three weeks and will therefore miss Portugal’s opening European Championship qualifiers, according to reports from Madrid. Ronaldo picked up an ankle knock during Real Madrid’s draw with Mallorca last night, and Spanish daily Marca says that, having been examined by the club’s medical staff, the Portuguese has been ruled out for the next two or three weeks. Real doctor Carlos Diez has sent details of the injury, suffered to the same ankle that caused Ronaldo problems last season, to the Portuguese Football Federation, and expects Ronaldo to be withdrawn from the 20-man squad to take on Cyprus and Norway. Seleccao interim coach Agostinho Oliveira must now decide between Ricardo Quaresma of Besiktas and Toulouse’s Paulo Machado in terms of who is drafted in, should Ronaldo’s spell on the sidelines be confirmed. Article update:Following confirmation of Ronaldo's withdrawal from the squad, Ricardo Quaresma has been announced as the Real Madrid man's replacement in the 20-man group. Silvestre Varela is also likely to be removed, according to various sources, with Paulo Machado of Toulouse set to step in for the FC Porto winger.By Sean Gillen PortuGOAL.net is on Facebook. So please, please come!
If Ronaldo is so bad, and such a bad captain and all of that, then maybe we should bench him, right? Ok, I'll bite, so who should we get to replace him? Who? Which one of you football geniuses can name a player that will bring more to the team at his position, than Cristiano Ronaldo?.......... Yeah, that's what I thought. He's the best player on the team guys, he just needs to be used and coached correctly. Sir Alex Ferguson got the most out of him, so did Manuel Pellegrini and Scolari too for that matter.
Now, on to more pressing matters. I think it is good that Quaresma gets his foot in the door this way. No, I don't think he has earned it yet, but I think he could potentially have a lot to offer if he gets his attitude right and learns to play team football. I've been watching him every chance I get at Besiktas and he is certianly playing better and has more confidence. So, I think it's a good thing that he gets re-introduced to the international game at this level against teams like Cyprus and Norway. If he plays well, that will only boost his confidence further and that's not a bad thing at all.
Forca Sempre Portugal!!!
and i watched every game of quaresma in Bjk. he is really trying to prove himself.
i hope he will do everything he can for portugal and you all know that when he does everything he can, he is an indispensable player.
Queresma is poo but he is playing well at the moment so lets give him a chance, maybe he can revive his career.
And for those of you who say the turkish league is crap, why don't you watch it before you slap them around. Their league is not far behind the other top leagues in terms of quality and there fans are absolutely nuts for their teams.
People!!! Quaresma is playing in a league where, if both teams show up with the same color shirts, they end up playing skins vs. shirts... lol
Come on people, the only reason he went from zero to hero in 2 weeks is cuz he's playing with talentless league.
It's like having Pele return to play against 7 year olds and then proclaiming " He look everyone, he's still got it!"
This team is already completely unstable after WC2010, and with the embarrassing fiasco surrounding Carlos Queiroz and the federation, let's through the wild child of Portuguese soccer in the mix at our most vulnerable time...
Yeah!
Great idea!!!
Anyways I'm glad to see Quaresma in the squad again and he should start against Cyprus with Nani on the other wing!
We might win it.
ARE YOU PEOPLE OUT OF YOUR MINDS??
THEY ARE ATTACKING-PLAY MAKING-FORWARDS!!!
LUIS FIGO NEVER, EVER, EVER CAME BACK FOR A BALL HE LOST, BUT YOU ALL LOVED HIM AND NOW HATE ON QUARESMA AND RONALDO???
HYPOCRITES!!!
Ronaldo can be selfish as well, but he works harder then anyone else on the field. If only he would stop crying every time he's knocked down he would get a lot more calls going his way.
Quaresma however is a liability on the field from start to finish. He may or may not show up, but worse he’s defensively irresponsible. If he losses the ball he won't even dream of running back, and if he gets tackled hard, he won’t cry for long, cuz he’ll me sitting on the bench with a red card for his retaliatory ways.
Listen, let Quaresma build up his confidence in Turkey (also known as bantam AA), since he can't seem to win himself a spot on any other team. If he manages to lead his Turkish team to a top 3 league finish then he should try and make his way to a league where girls and boys don't play on the same teams...
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate Quaresma. I am however incredibly disappointed in Quaresma, which is a big difference.
Quaresma was supposed to compete for top dog with CR7 and he's done nothing of the sort. Let him rot in Turkey for a year until he's hungry enough to do something with this thing he's calling a career…
At this point in time we need players who want to play, improve, win and stop at nothing until their goals are met. In my opinion Quaresma is still too much of a gamble, especially on the international stage. He needs to play well in more then just 2-3 Turkish games before I would play him on my team.
My Selecao could do better, my Selecao should!
Why do our players always get injured right before qualifiers?
