Our heads have not dropped - Portugal striker Liedson

“Let’s bring back the three points”

Portugal forward Liedson insists that the Seleccao remain focused on securing a victory against Norway on Tuesday evening, despite the disruption surrounding the squad and the disappointing result against Cyprus on Friday.

Led by interim coach Agostinho Oliveira, Portugal were held to a 4-4 draw with Cyprus in Guimaraes, in a match watched by just 10,000 spectators at the Dom Afonso Henriques Stadium. It a was a poor result to start the team’s Euro 2012 qualification campaign, but Liedson today told reporters that the team aim to make up for the setback against Norway in Oslo.

“Nobody is happy, of course not. Nobody expected to draw but football is unpredictable,” Liedson said. “The important thing is that the group is not down. We are upset about the situation, but our heads are up and we are sure we will have a good game (against Norway) and bring back the three points.

“We were unlucky to concede four goals at home which, with all due respect to Cyprus, should not happen, but now it is in the past and we must forget about it.

“The Queiroz situation? We as players should not speak about these things. We think only about the game

“Of course we would have liked the stadium to be full, as we’re used to, but the most important thing is for us to keep working, to not think about the issues off the field but on the games themselves and to win them.”

I do not have high hopes for Portugal tonight. I believe Portugal are the better squad, but it will be a challenge to get organized from what we saw v. Cyprus.

I agree with Patrick. If fans aren't going to support Portugal at Guimeraes, then don't schedule any further games there. Maximize the home advantage.

I don't beleive Liedson is the problem or the solution. He may not be the quality we would like to see at Forward, but Portugal needs to find/develop a better option. From what I see, Liedson plays with full effort.

I read the comments from the Cyprus game summary. First, congratulations to Cyprus. A tie in the away leg is a good accomplishment against any team. Second, any person who goes to another team's website to slander the other team needs to find better things to do with their time. Third, there is no question Italy has a better history in futbol than Portugal, but I don't see much to be proud of coming from Italy now. Lower your voices Italy. We can smell you.
Disappointing

Being Portuguese, and following "A Selecao das Quintas" is akin to being a Sorting Lisboa fan or a NY Met, or NY Jet fan!!!!!!!
The little train that could... but just never does!!!!!!
Alas. I will love Portugal to the end of times (my being 3rd generation American, to boot). Love is hard, but hopefully, before I pass on, I will see Portugal as a winner on the World Stage.
I tell my wife, if she wants to see a grown man cry, she'll need to wait until Portugal wins a World Cup!!!!!!
Portugal will make it - "Justin from Rochester - read this message please"..

Portugal are going through a cycle and we will be back up. We probably have 2 or 3 players on the roster who featured in Germany 2006. Like all other teams, we have now to be focussed on forming a new, young, exciting, and magical team with the players at hand. We have some of the best players in the world - Quaresma (fantastic), Ronaldo, Eduardo, Carvalho, Coentrao, Nani, Danny, Merieles....and so on.... Portugal will WIN THIS GROUP!
"Justing from Rochester", you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about...YOU need to head down and wash dishes because since you made this idiotic comment, it seems like you have tremendous experience in this field.
Don't like liedson

I support the national team more that anything in my life to be honest with you. I don't like liedson as a player not one bit. I think he is small, weak, slow and not a good forward. The fact that he is not portuguese just further increases my lack of wanting him to put on the jersey. God I wish Hulk was portuguese or one of the other 1000 brasilian forwards we have in our league. Why is it that we have to luck out with little liedson. Sorry but I don't like him.

I don't know why they keep on playing at the Guimeraes Stadium, it is bullshit. The last time they played there with China for the World Cup preparation, hardly 15,000 fans were watching, and now as much as 10,000 fans, pathetic. The stadium consists of around 30,000 seats, but even for a national match half of the stands are empty. The PFP should not consider playing a match here again. No good home atmosphere comes out, and at the end the fans just end up booing the players.

What don't you show a little bit more class by supporting our National team rather than criticize Liedson. At least he is trying to make a difference in hopes of Portugal winning a title.

We need to be positive and avoid the negative immature feedback.

Fans in the next game it will make a munch different impact since it will probably be a full stadium so they're going to have to work against that as well

I totally agree with Cristavao in Oz! 10,000 fans for a home game, that's pathetic! Although, as I am sure we all are, totally disappointed with the result, we should support our country through thick and thin!!

If I lived in Portugal, I would go to every home game, regardless of distance as I'd have no excuse and I'd be proud to support my national team!!

I'm confident that Portugal will do well against Norway. The players worked hard against Cyprus but were unlucky with a draw. We should think positive and support our players. Stop the criticism!!
Carvalho is an excellent captain for Portugal!

Good luck to the Portuguese national team!!

Miguel must start against Norway because Silvio is replacing Coentrao. Cut him some slack anyway. Bruno Alves is the mistake here. I think Nuno Coelho should replace him next match and if Veloso provides anything on the defensive end.. he should replace Fernandes.

Nani, Q7, and Almeida should take care of business. I dont care if its 1-0. Just pick up the win and we'll jump right on top the group.

Only 10,000 people turned up for this game, thats pathetic.

The team needs the support of its fans. Guimeraes holds close to 30,000 and we should be filling that regardless of who we are playing.

The people who didn't bother to show up should accept some of the responsibility for this draw.

Where is the love!

I love what this man has done with Portugal in the past but this was absolutely the worst i've seen of him against Cyprus. He cannot start against Norway.

I think Liedson has a good attitude about the Cyprus game. Obviously, they can't be happy about the way they played and I'm sure it's a matter of pride that they want to do better.

How bad is Coentrao's injury? Is it going to keep him out for a lengthy amount of time? I don't much about Silvio, are you sure that Veloso won't be replacing him? We just need whoever plays to be able to make those runs into the attacking third that Coentrao makes so well. Of course, he'll also have to be sound defensively since we appear to be struggling in that department all of a sudden.

We can beat Norway, but not if we play like we did against Cyprus. Cyprus just looked like they wanted it more than we did. If we play our best, we can win, but it won't be easy and it looks like the players understand that now.

Forca Portugal
Past comment.

anything less than maximum points against Norway and Portugal can forget about Euro '12....

In all fairness to Liedson he has played pretty darn good every time he has put on the selecao jersey. And he he has been representing the red and green with pride and honor, regardless of where he was born.

As for Coentrao I really don't think that he will be replaced. He is by far one of the most promising players we have for the futur of the selecao.
Who is liedson?

I hope we don't underestimate our opponents again.

Norway will be very strong, physical and direct and will cause different problems to those that Cyprus posed.

Tactically we need to be much more disciplined. I won't mention any names but there is no place for ballerina play and giving the ball away cheaply so that Norway can hoof it forward and instigate quick, direct attacks.

Norway are there for the taking but only if we play smart and patient. I hate to say it but we could do with Queiroz's tactical know-how during this game.
COENTRAO???
