Portugal crash to defeat in Norway

Norway 1-0 Portugal

Eduardo consoled by Bruno AlvesThe Seleccao followed up their embarrassing draw against Cyprus on Friday with a potentially damaging defeat against Norway in Oslo. A blunder from Eduardo allowed Huseklepp to score the only goal of the match in the 20th minute.

Portugal
collected another unwanted record tonight, as they were beaten for the first time in their history by Norway. This performance was arguably even more dispiriting than the Cyprus debacle. Although admittedly playing a higher level of opposition, Norway goalkeeper Knudsen was only forced into serious action on one occasion in the entire the 90 minutes.

All doubts have now been banished regarding the harmful effect on the team of the ongoing battle between the anti-Queiroz faction in the FPF and the Portugal coach, which has led to Queiroz’s suspension and a rudderless ship.

Meireles chance

It could have been a very different story had Raul Meireles scored instead of ballooning over when clean through on five minutes. The Liverpool midfielder was in an offside position but the flag stayed down and Portugal were soon to rue the miss.

Norway had already caused problems for the Portuguese defence with a series of high balls launched into the box, but the deadlock was broken in unfortunate circumstances for one of Portugal’s World Cup heroes, Eduardo. The goalkeeper collected a back-pass from Silvio and dwelt too long on the ball. Carew slid in to block the attempted clearance with the ball running loose for the grateful Huseklepp to slide into the empty net.

Portugal attempted to react, but a lack of creativity in midfield combined with a heavily populated and well-organised Norwegian defence restricted the visitors to long-range shots. Manuel Fernandes fired into the side-netting and a Hugo Almeida free-kick was deflected wide as Norway held on to their lead comfortably up until the break, despite having to make two forced substitutions as Weahler and Carew went off injured.

Defensive mistakes

The second half started with the hosts in the ascendancy as Norway twice went close to doubling their lead. First Huseklepp curled an effort fractionally wide. Next the usually dependable Ricardo Carvalho was affected by what has been Portugal’s error-strewn defensive play so far this Euro 2012 campaign. The Real Madrid man’s sloppy back header fell right into the path of Abdellaoue, who screwed wide when he had the goal at his mercy.

As the clock started to tick down Portugal poured forward with increasing urgency, but there was little pattern to their play and no discernable plan, as the team relied on moments of skill from their talented individuals rather than a cohesive collective effort to find the breakthrough.

Almeida had the ball in the net on the hour mark, following up a fierce Fernandes shot that Knudsen could not hold onto, but the big striker had strayed offside.

Tiago almost burst through on goal, Danny miscued badly when Nani picked him out, and a late Bruno Alves header flashed across goal with the sliding Almeida just unable to get the vital touch.

Playing catch-up

To make matters worse for the Seleccao Denmark scored a last-minute winner against Iceland to leave Portugal playing catch-up at this early stage in Group H. Anything other than victory in the next game at home against the Danes in early October and Portugal’s chances of making it to a seventh consecutive major tournament will be hanging by the thinnest of threads.

CRonaldo cannot play for any other nation other than Portugal period. He has already appeared on the senior squad more than 70 plus times. If he hadnt played for Portugal senior team then yes he could go to Spain, Us wherever he held dual citizenship. The only way he will not play for Portugal is if he retires which means its either Portugal or retirement from international football

No problem with people from states voicing their opinion but please learn the FiFa rules of footy. You lose all credibility raysagres when you make statements like that

Enough is Enough!! I agree with John from Newmarket! It was a joke! They're in the process of finding a new coach and since Mourinho is not available then forget about hiring any Portuguese coaches! They should look elsewhere for a coach! Oh and as for the guy stating that they should change back the uniforms because these are bringing them bad luck!.....lol.....Sorry buddy but it's not the uniforms it's the coaches that are bringing them "bad luck"...

CR7 has a american born son and that puts him on the fast track to American citizenship and the USA will welcome him with open arms and CR7 will have a better chance of winning the World cup, just visualize CR7 in red white and blue surrounded speedy forwords ,a tough midfield Cr7 can take USA to glory, unlikely Portugal they never get a fair shake from the refs, with the USA it would be a completely different story they wouldn't dare cheat USA the cosequences would be grave.

I know most people won't even try, but if everyone hates the current situation, shouldn't we complain to the right people, and not just a fansite where it won't get to where it matters? Here:

I suggest everyone voice their opinions and email whoever you can. If we're going to complain, might as well complain straight to the source and let them know.

I really dont get it. The whole team and federation is in a mess, I think personaly we need another manager soon other wise its going to get worse and worse the situation.
I see some people saying that we are a team ranked 25-40.
Don't be silly were not..We have World Class players who play for some of the best teams in the world like Real Madrid and Machester.
We need someone to find a formation and organisation that suits are play and players other wise we cant play.
We do have a great team, but were going through a rough patch at the moment since players like Simao, Deco and Paulo ferraira have retired and we have too many players injured like C.Ronaldo, Bosingwa, Coentrao, Pepe ect.
Plus new players coming in like Silvio and players who havent been in the squad for a while llike Quaresma.

New era of the national team will come soon only until queiroz gets sacked! ((I know these two games werent really to due with him, but its effecting us and we cant have no manager for 6 months!))

Was the last time Portugal beat a team in the Top 25 of the FIFA World Rankings.

It was a 2-0 win over Brazil at the Emirates, I was at that game with my family and I was really proud to be Portuguese that night.

If you told me then that we wouldn't win another game against a top team for AT LEAST another 2 and a half years I would of called you insane but the sad reality is that since the Scolari era we have become nothing more than a 2nd/3rd tier international side that were lucky to qualify for the World Cup and are facing failure to reach Euro 2012.

Never mind top 25, we are now struggling to beat teams ranked 25-40 like Ivory Coast, Denmark, Sweden and now Norway.

This is the kind of company Portugal belongs with nowadays. These results will have harsh implications on our future. Our ranking will drop and when it comes to future qualifying like for WC 2014 and Euro 2016 we will probably be in the 2nd tier and find ourselves in a qualifying group with a giant like Spain or Germany, making it even more tough to reach major competitions.

Paulo Bento is being touted by Abola as Queiroz's likely replacement this morning but I think we need either a foreign manager or a young Portuguese manager like DOMINGOS PACIENCA.

Im still laughing at usa with the ronaldo playing for spain comment...priceless, wish i cud post a vid of usa saying that on youtube haha as for the selecao, lets be honest, it's not over yet. But i dont think queer eyes, as one of our posters calls him, is the man who will see us thru. Ppl can say its not his fault as he is not on the bench, but reality is that he is still calling the tactics and starting 11 etc etc before the match, so yeah,he is at fault and must b held accountable.this is not sumthg new to the selecao, since world cup qualifiers we've been playin atrocious football,we're talkin 3yrs of bad football for a team full of talent.this cycle will not end unless the current coaching staff is relieved of all duties.id like to find out something from the rest of u; what positive can be taken away from the selecao under the quieroz tenure?

I'll admit, with Carlos were not bad but not amazing, but with him out in the press box, were toast. Either get rid of him completely, or brush this off like Scolari's punch was brushed off. UEFA suspended him, but the FPF still bought his box seats.

It seems to me that this is all a big conspiracy. Q is up there buying his won tickets, the FPF don't care, and Augustinho says he is talking with Q, but we have seen a 4-4-2 come out of no where, absolute shambolic defending, rubbish counter-attacking, and erratic subsititutions. This is not Q in charge. He wants to say, they want him to go, no one is being definative.

Augustinho wasn't given a chance before with the A team, his results with the U21s weren't that great, but he is behind the helm doing things at his own pace. These qualifiers look to be going in the same direction and style as 2002, where Augustinhos brother made us look stupid.

Nevertheless, A BOLA is reporting Paulo Bento to take over. I think I can agree with this, but it has to be done within the next 2 weeks. Bento has a similar defensive style, but his attacking balance brought Sporting alot of titles. This may be blown up, but I wouldn't mind him in charge.

This is looking as much of a farse as '86, and we had a very good team then. Seems like Portuguese NT soccer is going back to the 1930 roots of bad results. We can only pray for our clubs to pull the weight.

The FPF has made a mess of things. So much so that it could possibly give Queiroz and players a pass when they shouldn't get one.
Someone alreay mentioned how managers from other countries quit when they have a embarassing loss. Once again the FPF gives the person they would love to let go a pass since he wasn't at the helm. If you want him gone fire him and bite the bullet and pay him.
Then again, unlike everywhere else in the world, Queiroz will never quit.

I do find it funny that people are calling for Scolari to come back, when he was run out. If I remember correctly, everyone was happy that he was gone.
He might have been Brazilian, but I remember when he urged all Portuguese to go out and fly Portuguese flags during the Euros. He had the people behind the team.
Yes, I know, we shouldn't have lost to Greece.

In today latest embarassement, why was Danny sitting. He had a good game vs Cyprus. And why wait so long to put him in.
Tiago is done, lets move on. I would have prefered to have seem Moutinho. I don;t think that he's the answer, but at least its different. Even I'm sounding stupid now.
Nani and Quaresma had no space, but also didn't seemed to interested in doing much.
Still, why send Quaresma off for Liedson, when you had worse to pick from.
I can't believe that we didn't have chance after chance. It looked hopeless.

This is inexcusable.

Eduardo has always been a joke! His school boy mistakes have cost his teammates many games both for the seleccao and at Braga. How can you play goalie with no coordination? Daniel Fernandes is solid, and probably the best keeper the seleccao has seen since the 60's. That's not saying much.

first off this game was so pathetic like absoulutely turribllle norway?????? wow anyway when cr9 comes back but him up top with nani and quaresma on the wings they will provide him the service he needs. that is trully a dangerous front 3 that will frustrate defences. at mid have meireiles fernandez and tiago DM and the back line should be coentrao when he comes back. carvalho alves or pepe(or at DM over tiago) and miguel.its all about quaresma now tho dont even give ronaldo number 7 back tell him to earn it it might make him work mildly hard to get it back and prove himself. because right now quaresma is playing great in my eyes he is so dangerous with the ball which is something ronaldo cant do anymore unless you count 45 to 60 yard shots that do nothing.

I didn't see the game but got sick to the stomach when I saw the result. To the people who are saying the players have no pride in playing for the Seleccao, I disagree. The Quiroz gate affair has been playing a bigger part in the squad failure than anyone is saying. The FPF needs to make a decision so we can all move on.

I have been blaming Queiroz, the FPF, injury, bad moral, but I have just come to the conclusion. The players just aren't as good as believe they are. Maybe surrounded by other great players on other great teams, but as individuals? They can't pass and they can't set up plays, they can't score and if not 100% defense we are too easy to get in on. I'm going to follow them because it's my team but I don't expect any results anytime soon.
Moral was good with Scolari, yet again no results. I think I just have to accept their status in the world of Football.
I feel terrible because usually I am so hopeful and expectant.

This is absolutely frustrating, our team is already in a very difficult situation and probably won`t qualify for Euro. Queiroz whether you like him or not is in a ridiculous place, put there by our terrible futebol federation. No one is doing what is best for the Portuguese national team and the players and fans alike are suffering. This can`t go on for much longer something has to give. The players will not walk out on Portugal but maybe they should.

After sleeping on it, I can reflect on this game and while it's disappointing to have lost, are we really that naive to expect anything more from this qualification campaign given what a mess the Seleccao is right now? - No Ronaldo, Bosingwa, Coentrao & Pepe.. We're rebuilding after the loss of Deco & Simao (I think alot of you underestimate the quality that Deco brought to us.. Most of our goals came through him).. Heck, we don't even have a manager at the moment. Everything is a mess and you can see it in the players faces. Things aren't going to get better anytime soon unless FPF can get their act together.. - On another note -Queiroz?! Is that how desperate you people have become to be ACTUALLY wanting Queeroz back?! Yeah credit goes to him for organizing a solid defense but when we came up against top opposition, our conservative approach got us nowhere. For now, I would like him back, he'll probably help us qualify. But then what? Once we come up against a top side we'll play anti-football again like we did in the World Cup and get nowhere...I'm not sure why people cry about wanting a Portuguese coach when it's clear that there is NOONE besides Mourinho that can handle our players big egos. We need someone like Hiddink, Aragones.. Or give Scolari another shot.

Lots to say but bottom line:

1) The federation and CQ fiasco has hurt a already fragile and team in transition. I do not feel sorry for any one but the fans, we are the ones that pay and watch to see miserable results. This needs to get fixed ASAP!

2) No creative midfield, we have been in decline in this area and do not have a world class replacement. Tiago is nice player but not a #10. Not sure who that player is but I do not think it is Danny.

3) As bad as the error by Eduardo, our inability to score especially on the road against a decent team showed again. What have we learned that we already knew? We can not score period ... the NT is who we thougth they were.

4) There is hope for 2012 but need to run the table and that will be difficult.

5) Conclusion: we can complain and post about players not having passion, this and that, etc. but we are not that good is the bottom line.

Fire Gilberto (auto-pilot) Madail, Quieroz is the worst head coach ever! Terrible in the 90's, awful now, the FPF will re-hire him again in 10yrs.
This Portuguese team has no chemistry or heart. Quaresma is pathetic, absolutely over-rated and selfish. Why no Moutinho? At least Portistas can't blame Ronaldo.
Was this the first time in history with no porto, benfica, sporting based players on the starting 11?

As soon as this team can figure out that one touch passes are something you do usually around the opposing teams box and not all over the god damn field things will be great. I swear to god just like the world cup why is portugal slowly losing their touch and finesse?? I honestly think I saw at least 30 one time passes in the air that went to norway. Ronaldo would help this team a lot because of his ability to create and I for one was not to happy with Nani today at all. He showed some flashes of brilliance but him and the other boys just have no control over the game sometimes. I really want someone else to come out on this forum and tell me you know what I am talking about. It can't just be me but I see Meireles, tiago, quaresma and nani receiving passes and just one timing it up in the air and in the direction of a teammate. It rarely works and it slows the game down something we should be taking advantage of with our speed on the wings. Instead quaresma and nani cut in from the wings and lay off dump passes to RM and tiago and they end up kicking the ball in the air like a baloon. I also hate when teams like Norway just sit back and act like pussies and only play defense, I understand the reasoning behind it but I can't stand watching it. This team collectively needs to settle down and I really think it is the coaching. I hate using the coach excuse because in the end I think players win games but this team is just so wreckless it is infuriating. I don't care who coaches I would prefer a portuguese manager but I will take Oprah winfrey right now if she can control these guys. Enough with the sloppy touches and passes control the damn game didn't they watch spain play and see how they handled it.

Sad to agree with many of the comments:
1) The selecção has no spirit
2) The rift between FPF and Queiroz is pathetic - they make Domenech and the French look dignified.
3) Our tactics are a shambles.

And I stick to my guns: with Cristiano it will only get worse.

Yeah, the comment of this guy about Cristiano Ronaldo playing for Spain in the next World Cup is utterly insane. You lost your balls big time.

Ronaldo is being named the captain of Portugal with all due respect, even if we don't like it or not. If he recovers from injury and started playing for Portugal again, he will definitely caps more times than Figo or Fernando Couto.

Beside, big ego players like Iniesta, Xavi, etc. would never accept him in a thousand years to play with them.

Carlos/Toronto
I have to say the defense was pretty solid. Even Silvio the new guy that some have never seen yet, showed he can handle the wing and attack when he can. Carvalho had that one error with his header, but i wont put too much pressure on him since he has saved us countless times.

Now with the midfield. Am i the only one who noticed that Tiago was the hardest worker today? Although Danny like to rush in more, i think Tiago is better in holding onto the ball and giving better passes, while Danny is a more running up guy and then pass if he doesnt have another option. Manuel Fernandes once again showed that although he is a defensive midfielder, if he is given space, he will rocket the ball whenever he can. We need more players to shoot when they have the opportunity! Meireles didnt see much of the ball today so i cant critisize him either.

As for forwards, i think Almeida isnt right in his head...He misses great chances all the time, and he has a short temper, like it was shown today when he grabbed the referees hand... Nani played as one of the best today, if not, he was the best in always crossing in, and shooting on net aswell, and setting up other players.

Worst player of the match i would give to Quaresma...people have to realise that his time is done. What have we seen today? First off all of his crosses were horrible. Secondly he has NO TEAMWORK whatsoever...he would prefer to try to take on 3 guys by himself and shoot on net then to pass to a player right beside him, this was shown numerous times in the match...i dont know what took them so long to put on Liedson, even though hes not amazing, at least Liedson passes the ball and plays offensively instead of running around doing moves..

I like many other Portuguese citizens still believe we can make it! With Coentrao and Ronaldo coming back we will sure be more offensive. and when Bosingwa and Pepe come then we will show who Portugal really is! FORCA PORTUGAL!

I know a lot of people don't admire his results, but personally my favourite part of his regime was how well organized the defense was. we rarely ever conceded. Leadership requires dissension to be made. Fire the coach and all his staff already.

We the fans of Portugal deserve much more than this chaotic, inconsistent and lethargic showing.

Maybe its time for some changes at the federation as well!!!

WOW!!!!.... out of contention for Euro "12 after only two qualifiers....

sorry, but there ain't no miracle happening here even with the return of CR7....

the cracks on this team have been visible for quite some time.... four years to be exact....

sadly, it may take longer than that to fix them.... beginning with those running the FPF....

This really is a joke, the situation with the fpf and queiroz is embarrasing. This reminds me of France, I don't understand why queiroz hasn't resigned or been fired. IN 2004 and 2006 we were a great team but maybe weve become predictable, playing a 4-4-2 may change things. Playing with 1 striker has not worked for us for four years, we even had some trouble in qualifying for euro 2008. Yet same formation game after game year after year, hopefully fabio, bosingwa, ronaldo, micael will be healthy soon and starting. I would have pepe back at dm not because I want to but that may be the only way to go right now at dm.

All the comments from players and from people like mourinho who talked about the bad atmosphere with the players and querioz, maybe just maybe the fpf will wake up and fire this man as he seems to have to big of an ego to resign and realize he hasn't done a good enough job

Then again if we go with a traditional 4 4 2 whos the other striker alongside almeida. Its not like we have a david villa or torres to partner together.
Missing the point

Alot of people are missing the point regardless of who's in charge there is no passion in the team. They don't play for the shirt they think it's a holiday to play for the selecção drop the "stars" and put in a squad who want to play for the country.

i'm Gutted as are many of us .. a 4-4 draw with cyprus that is really bad .. but it can happen , so we are lookin for a response and like many of us do .. we get behind the boys " forca portugal " and all that .. and then they let us down again = ( i didnt watch the game as i was working ive been told that quaresma looked our best player how is that possible .. we didnt even pick him for the world cup because he was becoming rubbish .. ive never liked any keeper we have had .. and i was the first one too say eduardo is a copy of ricardo and will let us down .. but at the world cup he did well and we didnt look like conceding much .. ( tbh tho apart from korea we didnt look like scoring either ) but now he's proved me ritee and were lookin round for sumone else too come and do the job .. soo dowwnn at the moment = ( queiroz come back too united and be the assitant .. let sumone no what he's doing do the job .. pray that mourinho has had enough of the rubbish he's watching .. hope that scolari wants another shot at the job .. we should of got guus hiddink .. every nation he's taking over has done well

For those wanting rui patricio he is even worse of a goalkeeper. Its not Eduardo's fault. Its all this bull from the FPF getting in the way, not to mention he has a different goalkeeper coach. I think not going to the euro will do the team good and realize that they need to stop being such damn primadonas as well. The team has been a disgrace the past 2 games.
Cristiano Ronaldo

USA
There's a reason why Cristiano doesn't have heart when he plays for the Selecao. He is inside, and he can see what these coaches and organization is all about. There's no heart! The goal today was not only an example of goalie mistake, but it is also a testament of the tenacity of the forward, The lunge, the need to win. With our talent on the field, and If our team had 1/4 of that heart, we could win it all.
Mark my words Gentleman. Before Cristiano Ronaldo's career is done, he will be playing for Spain! He's a winner, at all costs. He wants to be the best ever to play the game, and he works his but off to be so. I don't blame him. He's got the talent, drive and determination... but playing with the Selecao? He knows, he'll never achieve the levels he's been working so hard for.
My prediction?
He will play for Spain by the next world cup.

heres what i think. defense played a bit better, but the offense didnt than the game vs cyprus. i think should have started with danny in starting 11. the only thing is that i dont understand is when they were losing the whole match why the hell did the coach wait till 8 mins left of the game to put liedson for more firepower. what can liedson do in 8 mins, such little playing time thats a joke. why did coach take out quersama, he could have taken veloso or fernandez. LIKE I SAID ANOTHER DAY ANOTHER FAILURE
My thoughts

I was a little worried with the starting 11 when I saw Tiago instead of Danny. Even though I wanted them to play a little more cautiously, they brought back the world cup formation that lacked a creative playmaker. I knew that if Norway scored First, they would park the bus and the game would be over.

Nani and Quaresma were not given much space on the wings so most of the play was through the center. Therefore, the lack of an attacking playmaker (Danny) hurt us when we had the ball in the middle of the final 3rd. If Danny had played, he would have attracted more attention than Tiago and we would have a lot more space to work with.

Bruno Alves had another very poor game and Eduardo made a fool out of himself again. Silvio and Veloso were ok, but they lacked the attacking threat Miguel and Coentrao would give.

Meireles, Fernandes, and Tiago did a good job holding onto the ball in midfield, but there was a huge lack of creativity and the final ball. When Danny was brought in, he added much needed energy and almost set up Almeida with an excellent through ball. If he started, Portugal could of had at least a point.
Nani and Quaresma did not see to much of the ball in space, but they were very wasteful in possesion (especially Quaresma who was horrible). Almeida was ok, but he lacked any good service.

It will be very hard for the seleccao to qualify, but we have been through similar circumstances before and I think we can do it again. Hopefully, Ronaldo, Pepe, Coentrao, and Bosingwa will be back for the Denmark game which is a MUST WIN game.

We can still turn this around

If I was such a big loseer/failiure as Queiroz I would just quit.
I would be totally embarassed. If I was a friend or related to him Id tell him straight: "buddy you are shit and cant coach everyone in portugal hates you, quit for f*** sakes.

Where is the passion for this team and its players? Absolutely no creativity to go with all the possession. Yet again the PF will continue to do nothing about it while the whole country gets embarrased.
I think you could have circled the world with the mileage from Quaresma's waste of shots long, wide and high.
I'm just sick to stomach.
What is there to support or cheer for?
Great video of what not to do as a keeper, Ricardo.
I'll go throw up again. Gag reflex kicking in.

That should answer why he didn't play. Silvio was solid in his place. A better question would be why did Tiago start instead of Danny? Tiago was literally useless the whole game. This 4-3-3 with wingers is getting old. The winning formation is a 4-4-2

Eduardo
Silvio- Carvalho- Pepe- Coentrao
Mereiles- Fernandes
Nani Quaresma
Makukula- Hugo Almeida

Eduardo is a good goalie. He made a mistake and that's natural.
What a joke!!

This team looks lazy and disinterested. Perhaps that is the result of the mess that the federation has created, but at some point the players must put it on themselves and and play with some pride. I didn't see that today. No intensity or sense of urgency, zero creativity.

Sure, they are ravaged by injuries -- Ronaldo, Pepe, Bosingwa, Coentrao -- but c'mon. Eduardo's howler was atrocious but it's not like Portugal created many chances of their own. Almeida in an offsides position on the disallowed goal is totally unacceptable. Get your ass in gear and take ONE measly step back when the shot comes in. Unreal.

Let's put this nightmare behind us, get healthy and win the next six.
i hope

How many Benfica fans still want Eduardo protecting their net now after the two huge mistakes in these last two games? Roberto is looking like a saint by comparison.

With Queiroz still on the bench, Portugal would have four points by now.

Once again, to the FPF, bem feito. As for the players, get a set of balls already.

Agree - It's the FPF and Failroz fault for bringing all this unnecessary drama into the NT...

The team is erratic and inconsistant. The job of the coach is to install a plan and demand discipline. I don't see either.

Too bad.

Portugal is in much worse shape here than WC qualifying. Better win the next 1.

The Bulgarian coach quit after losing 1-0 at home to Montenegro..... maybe Quiroz and his coaching staff should take note.

The reality is that aside from Mourinho Portuguese coaches are soft dudes, this guy is as soft as Quiroz.... kissing players that did nothing on the pitch, kick them... don't kiss them man!!!

The good years in recent Portugal squad history were Scolari days so maybe it's time we all admit that an foreign coach is needed to handle this situation..... we've got to many players with big ego's, we need a coach with an ever bigger one.

We need a new coach now. Unless Queiroz's suspension is lifted, let's expect more of these losses... and we still need to face Denmark.

P.S. It's sad that Portuguese fans have to dread a Denmark match these days. It just ain't 2004 no more boys.

FIRE QUEIROZ HIRE LIPPI
I simply cannot cheer for the seleccao if they keep Qeiroz around.
He must get fired, he has to, my gosh again....horrible, mind boggling tactics.
We started with 3 defensive minded mids; tiago, meireles, fernandes.
8 mintues left to play and down a goal and we still had 2 defending mids out there & 1 striker, um mr Queiroz you know we need a goal right? just checking that your brain hasnt fallen into total retardation.
7 minutes left finally we bring on a striker, yyayaya, so who we gonna take off??? Alves? Meireles? Fernandes? nope, we take off our best player Quaresma. WTF?
I have never seen such an inept coach get this much leway & chances. If this was in brazil, Italy, Spain, etc. they would burned him to the steak in the city centre.
A part of me just wants the seleccao to keep losing, maybe just maybe one day the bones heads at the fpf will get it & fire him.

On another note what did Alves do 4 days ago to claim a spot on the starting 11? He got beat a few times & was lost again today. Mark my word, ALVES IS DONE. He left to Russia a far inferior league to Portugal for $$$, he doesnt have anything else to play for. When you play against shittier opponents , you become shittier, he has his cash now & really doubt that he gives a rats ass about winning the russian league. So Alves thanks for the last & only 2 years of service. SELLOUT.

I guess Eduardo is shit as well as he was key in costing us both games, get rid of him. Put a friggin tree back there for christs sakes.

And for those of you who are going to give the rest of the old "RELAX GUYS" or "FORCA PORTUGAL" or "LETS GET BEHIND THE TEAM" I doubt anyone wanst to hear it so STFU.

Will things ever change for us? EVERYYY SINGLEE international tournament is just a massive letdown for every single Portuguese across the world. Yes we're missing Ronaldo, Bosingwa, Coentrao & Varela and Yes we're trying to rebuild after the loss of Deco & Simao but with the players we have, there's just no excuse for failing to beat both Cyprus and Norway. We've got players that play for Madrid, Man Utd, Chelsea & Liverpool.. WORLD CLASS talent but somehow we just can't put together a winning TEAM? I'm not even going to begin to blame the players for their performance because anyone watching can see that there's just no organization. There's no team play, just a bunch of 11 individuals on the pitch. Everyone just runs around like headless chickens attempting these magical passes that never work, heads are down before we even kick-off. Where's the simple short passes and link-up play that we saw in the Scolari era? He may have been the ONE coach that actually put together a TEAM for us but still we failed to win one trophy on our own soil!!!

Nothing new here boys...I told my bruv today that two things will either happen here: One Portugal wins ugly or suffers a sad, depressing draw or lost...Once again Portugal are putting themselves in a hole to qualify for a major tournament...We can't be losing stupid points so early on in qualifying...But I don't blame the mess on the players...It's the FPF and Failroz fault for bringing all this unnecessary drama into the NT...All of this drama should've been delt with over the summer, but it looks like these morons will only learn the hard way and unfortunately we are going to have to miss out on Euro 2012 so all this mess can be resolved
A bigger problem is the goose-egg

Forget the freak goal for a moment, as bad enough as it was. Not scoring at all was inexcusable. Sure, we don't have any good finishers. But if there's something to fix to have any reasonable chance of even deserving to play in the Euro, it's this.

Score a cheap goal, park the bus, game over. Why did he put Veloso at LB? Why didnt Miguel play? Carvalho saved the team enough times. Again Alves is out of position and sending crosses from the wing? Wtf? Its so shitty expecting 6 pts and getting one. Too depressing to discuss this.
