I am a crazy uncle..!

I have a few God Children.. and a few special Nephews that I train.. for the sole purpose of filling Portugal's holes.

Being the hard assed dude that everyone admired.. I say what I want to say when I want to say it... and have always done so.

I guess that is what rubs some people the wrong way, but in my defense I almost never started a fight..ever.. but always ended them.

I am the type of dude that always stands for others.. and the only thing that makes me throw down is someone picking on a weaker person. That is the only thing that flicks my switch.

I am training 3 at the moment.. one to be a Goalkeeper.. the other two to be Strikers.. you can best believe we are working for the greater good.

My nephew Braydon is ridiculously smart.. agile... he is a big cat.. that loves to play.. he will be Eusebio 2...
his brother... Christ Hopper (Christopher).. is like me.. the anvil.. power.. shoot right through the goalie and score... a little monster with brains.. scary..lol

Philip..is a detailed sevant with large hands.. likes to jump with power, and likes to take everything away from you...that is why he will rule in goal.

You will hear their names. we will all cheer.. they are the future.. from the fans that so passionately care. We train the future.

Luso even though we have disagreed.. I agree with I am a loving uncle who says what has to be said.

I too think that supremogino and orlandomac are the same person ,but are two different characters. Gino is the young hip trying to be cool guy that every one wants to hang out with and Orlandomac is the crazy uncle who says anything he feels like as in calling some one "Queer eyes" or "Jorge of the jews". I have a feeling about some other posters also who might be GinoMac characters too. I think their should be a poll about this . I've got my eye on you Vitinho by the way whats for breakfast you all ways make me hungary
It's funny..

From two guys that were complaining about my name calling... funny how you are both easily led.

Voice who has changed his profile hiding his name to dupe others.. and Sour Puss who I called a Keyboard Jockey ages ago (Google it for a definition Green Melon)..

Now I will admit Voice sometimes you have some half decent points.. but even a broken clock is right twice in one day, and 14 times in one week. So if you want to call me the Supremo or the Big Mac.. I will accept that. It doesn't hurt if you bow either...lol

Sour Puss on the other hand has nothing to offer a conversation except his failed abortion. He just runs around trying to encite Benfiquista's through a monitor. All your future posts will be set to ignore.

Nuff Said..

Orlandhoe the only reason your able to talk to me like that is because you can hide behind a computer screen. You're so lame I'm not even going to acknowledge your corny attempts at insulting me. As for "bryan" you're right those are former sporting players because as you know your team doesn't produce any. In regards to your sporting comments the reason portistas and sportingistas hate benfica is because of people like you(morons) and all the whining, crying, and delusional mentality that your team actually matters anymore when reality is it doesn't. What exactly does benfica do please explain because you rarely win the anymore you don't win in Europe and you don't contribute to the NT. Get ready to sell luiz and coentrao after that well see who cant earn 3 points. Sporting have a young Portuguese core what does benfica have? LOLOL. I give respect when its due and porto has earned it.

Hey, I enjoy reading everyone's posts on this site and definitely hate when people talk about Ronaldo having no heart and stuff like that.

Ronaldo has always been praised as a deedicated professional on every team he plays for and nobody should have any reason to doubt him because of that. Some of his poor performances didn't have anything to do with his level of dedication but how he was being used on the team. Now things are different, and we can all see just how great he can play.

About B. Alves moving to Zenit....I was confused about that but I know that he wanted to keep his future in mind and he isn't getting any younger, it's true. I don't think that's why he's not starting any more. However, I don't think anyone should think of him as a sellout. He plays with passion for the Seleccao and played well for the most part, with the exception of the Cyprus game, when everyone struggled.

I do wish he would've gone to Spain or England but hey, there weren't any offers there and Zenit offered him a spot where he could play Europa League and Champions League football and win domestic titles. Why not pursue a new challenge? I say good for him to go out and be a champion with Miguel Danny.

Bruno Alves will play for the Seleccao again, especially if an injury takes either Carvalho or Pepe out.

I always enjoy the discussions about Portuguese football with everyone, even when some people's opinions are so biased!! haha, just kidding, we are all biased in some way.

Forca Portugal! I can't wait to get tickets for the Portugal-Norway game in June!
Great result

It wasn't a great game but a solid performance something "Queer-Eyes" could never accomplish. Cheers to Bento for his results so far, very impressive and much to look forward to.

I was reading along thinking Voice of Wrong was actually totally on point with his commentary.. over a few posts.

I too still believe against good teams you need the Triple Crown of Carvalho, Alves, and Pepe.. to shut the middle down. Sure against weaker teams you can sub in someone like Meireles into the DM role but as you saw in this game it definitely leaves huge aerial gaps.. if you look at the corner we were out numbered in the middle on D.. from a corner? A bunch of guys unmarked..?

Anyways CR has scored in two straight games.. Queer-Who?

Of course we have Un-Mannless Sour Puss taking potshots even when I haven't said anything... I always did have a way with the B*tches.. always on their minds..lol

And Voice of Reason totally proves that anyone that self proclaims himself with a particular attribute is anything but.

You attack Supremo and rabbit extensively about how you are level headed and don't take part in the mob mentality.. before you extoll these fine sentiments, "Look dummy…I’m going to spell one thing out for you, that you obviously aren’t bright enough to understand."

Clearly that must be the Voice of Reason.

A real Voice of Reason would appreciate that Supremo is entitled to his own opinion.. even if we both agree that he is wrong, on this occasion.

Also if you read back you will find out that Supremo & I only agree at about a 55% rate. Although under QUEER EYES we agreed with much more, so clearly we should rename you Voice of the Delusional as well.

Many other great posts.. like most I have great respect for Nuno Gomes.. but he has no business with the current squad.

Cheers
Yo Nathan

Hey man

I've always said that you are one of the more informed and insightful posters here.

I come here to read Tom Kundert and talk futebol with my fellow Portuguese - from all over the world. I just get really tired of reading posts from know-it-alls who criticize everything after the fact. Especially when they don't know what to criticize, so they use the old argument that "Ronaldo has no heart". Man, every guy that puts that jersey on wants to win for his country...to imply anything other than that is just nonsense.

I'll try to keep things in check from now on.

Sorry to all if my long winded posts took away from the discussion.

i obviosuly want simao on the team because he is a great player not because he was a benfica player he was also a sporting player so what is your point and didnt i state that i wanted varela to play but of course you didnt see that right lol
plus ive liked martins since he was at sporting i have always been a fan of his i dont know what your trying to get at because last the time i checked you talk more about sporting and porto then the portugal team mannyscp your a joke and since we want to talk about clubs then your team is a joke say what you want about benfica complaining about the refs hey we did but we are starting to win and get on with it unlike your team who have the whole portugal team right but cant figure out how to get 3 points face it you dont talk bad about porto because sporting is portos sidekick and all of you join together to hate benfica and i love it makes it seem like porto and sporting fasn are always trying to diss us

Bryan. Your grammar and punctuation is the equivalent of a twelve year old.. and don't let others come here and tell me how immature I am for insulting people when I'm only trying to defend myself.

If anyone noticed, I'm the one being called out here for expressing my own opinion.

Voice is criticizing my "managerial skills" because I was appointed coach of PortuGoal.net. Well, Fire me. You seem qualified to take over with your "unbias opinions". Perhaps you should join the Podcasts with Andy & Tom. We're all anxious to hear what you have to say. Here is where we write our own opinions while respecting the opinions of others.

33-year-old Nuno Gomes is too old because he just is and apparently cant run anymore or keep up with the pace of the game. Though I recall Figo in the starting line up for Portugal at the age of 33 at the 2006 world cup. Not the same player, I know. But doesnt this justify that some players can still play competively despite their veteran status? Only if you give them a chance..

And Poor Ol' Bruno Alves. I sincerely don't mean to criticize him but in all fairness you are responsible for your own actions. The defence was all out of sorts that day but Alves is sololy responsible for not marking his man on that 4th goal. He wasnt putting the equal amount of effort as his teammates were. If he pushes up and we are counter attacked.. he cant track back if his life depended on it.

He could be the future but we live in the present. Carvalho and Pepe are the better duo period. Pepe also scored a crucial goal with his HEAD in a 1-0 win over Hungary last year. Carvalho headed one off the post against Ivory Coast.

The Portuguese movement to North America has nothing to do with Alves moving to Russia. Probably the most stupidest statement I've read from you. Our families were poor, stuck in a war, and came for a better quality of life, what you earn affects the quality of your life.

I'm positive Bruno Alves, The captain of Porto was making a 6 figure salary. He is well off with his life. If you want millions, I don't care. Go to Spain, England, or even Italy. Somewhere competitive. But you opt for Russia. Its like Beckham and Henry playing in the U.S. Their playing careers are finished. They just want money.

It's so unnecessary to get this deep into the subject.. Pepe and Carvalho are simply a better combination. This is my opinion. You say different? Express freely. Don't act like a coward and call people out.

(P.S Andy & Tom don't take offence. The Podcasts are great.)
voice of reason and bryan/bermuda

lol another person who sees the "tactical genius" that is supremo gino/orlandomac.....btw bryan in bermuda did i hit a nerve? because your hypocrisy is hilarious you claim not to care about club teams when it comes to the NT yet you constantly make excuses for current or former benfica players ie keep simao on the team, making excuses for carlos martins (last time i checked the attacking mid is supposed to be a playmaker not simply a player who keeps possession) and of course my all time favorite and a benfiquista constant the idea that nuno gomes belongs on the nt when he doesnt even play for benfica ......voice of reason indeed
haha

It's hilarious, so long as you both remember to support Portugal wholeheartedly while you're at it.
Bruno Alves
39 Wednesday, 13 October 2010 20:30
The reason Bento has Alves on the bench is because it's be idiotic to split the Pepe/Carvalho partnership.

I don't think Alves is being punished for his play against Cyprus, or his decision to leave Porto for Zenit (and really, was that ALL his decision? I'm sure Porto didn't mind getting paid millions for his release)

hey supergimo vopice of reason has a point he knows what he is saying how can youblame the cyprus game on one player that is stupid and makes you look bad it wasnt bruno alves fault that portugal didnt put away all of their chances was it or is he suppose to be the striker too im not a bruno alves fasn im just saying you made yourself sound stupid by blaming 1 player out of 11 for a tie
Yo SupremeGino

Supreme Gino

I always share my “opinions” – they are based on what I believe to be unbiased views. My opinions are always based on what I think is best for the team – it is not based on club allegiances. I care first and foremost about the players that wear the jersey for my parents country…my country.

On this site, I don’t participate in mob mentality criticism of individual players or the coach. I don’t use mocking names like “Queer Eyes” or “Failroz” – on the contrary, I respect and thank everyone who wears the shields over their chest to represent US (that’s you, me and everyone else who roots are in the motherland.

As a matter of fact, find one place where I said something negative? Since you seem to think I absolved Bruno Alves of his mistakes against Cyprus and blamed Miguel, thus forcing him into international retirement. As a matter of fact, that statement shows that you are the person who likes to assess blame and point the finger at people.

During the world cup qualifications, when people were screaming about us not making it, I think I was one of the first to say “have faith, we’ll get it done.” When we tied Cyprus, I think I was one of the first to say that we have time to fix it – and what do you know? Thankfully, it looks like we are on our way. If it is with Paulo Bento – great, I don’t care. The most negative thing I said was that Nuno Gomes couldn’t compete at the international level anymore – I didn’t say he was garbage, I just shared an objective point of view.

You on the other hand, are always pointing the finger of blame, all to willing to assign blame to one person. If you can’t assign blame to a specific person, you resort to calling out Ronaldo for having no heart and just wanting cash. You are critical of everything – then you come and grandstand when they win…like you had something to do with it.

See Gino, I take a long range view of what is good for the team – regardless of club teams. All I am trying to say is that Bruno Alves WILL BE a valuable member of this team and shouldn’t be discounted because of one bad game. They all played poorly. Do you think Ricardo Carvalho is going to play into his late 30’s? 40’s? I’m just trying to say that Bruno has always represented – I bet you weren’t hating him so much when he scored in injury time against Albania to keep WC qualification alive huh? Do you remember how he scored? IN THE AIR. I just want the national team coach to develop players to fill the role of those who retire. Bruno is one of those guys we will count on.

Look dummy…I’m going to spell one thing out for you, that you obviously aren’t bright enough to understand. If you know anything about your country, you know that we are a nation of emigrants. Portuguese people have long left the motherland to work and earn money for their families – years ago it was to have a better life. Today, it is to earn a better living. Bruno Alves leaving for Russia is no different – he is going to earn MORE MONEY. He hasn’t turned his back on his country – he just left for a few months to ensure for his future. Last time I checked, there weren’t many big paydays in the Liga.

By the burro – everyone who reads this page knows that you are Orlandomac.
learning from the past
36 Wednesday, 13 October 2010 15:14
I am so elated that we won both games and there was a new found change and confidence I havent seen since scolari days.

And i certainly like the tried and tested 3 midfielder formation.

However, like so many times before, even under scolari, the sometimes lack of variation, change, and emphasis that when u play with three midfielders and only one striker, players need to get in the box, so many times I have seen us control the ball around the box and we have one player surrounded by 6 opposing players, and it becomes a shooting gallery from 30 yards.

I hope Bento learns from the past and makes alterations, changes, and forces players like Miereles, moutinho, nani, martins to attack into the box - Have you ever watched the Germans or Spanish!

I was disappointed when it was 2-1 and we seemed to become stagnant that he went with postiga, instead of using Varela ( who plays more of a strikers role with his wing play).

With the amount of wing talent that is on fire this season (we didnt have room for quaresma who is playing very well) I would like to see a formation where we suck in teams and let the four attackers have a field day with defenses!

A formation in various shapes with the front four switching pulling back, moving, that looks something like;

Ronaldo Varela

Nani Danny/Quaresma

Machado/Miereles/Veloso - Moutinho/Martins/Fernandes

Coentrao Carvalho Pepe Bosingwa / Perreira

Eduardo

That would be something to see, to unleash all four players on counter attacks, defences wouldnt know who is the striker and who is the winger as all players would be interchangable, i.e. if ronaldo gets ball on wing, nani moves inside, danny moves into striker role and varela provides the width, not to mention one holding midfield determined and a venturing one providing support.

Voice of reason. What is the problem? Why dont you share your own opinions instead of challenging others. I'm sure if we took a poll, atleast 70% would prefer the Pepe, Carvalho combination. Bruno Alves is the reason why we dont have 10 points in 4 matches. He costed all those goals vs. Cyprus but some of you are too blind to notice and put the blame on Miguel which forced him into international retirement. Carvalho, Alves partership is so last year. Carvalho, Pepe now play on the same club. What more can one ask for? They are bonding and adapting to each other much quicker.

and.. Alves is playing is an unknown league.. he only needs to play average to win games there. If you threw him into a real madrid champs league game with Carvalho, he would flop. Anything Alves can do, Pepe can do better.

I'm a terrible manager..? Well thanks for the consideration. you must be a Porto fan. Look, he abandoned your club for money. There is a reason why Bento has him on the reserve team.
Greeat win
34 Wednesday, 13 October 2010 14:35
Maybe not great, but a win is a win is a win.
The squad did what it needed to do.

I am a huge Nuno Gomes fan, and still believe that he fills a role at Benfica. Keep in mind that role is in the backroom and not on the field.
His days in the Seleccao are long and gone. He has no business in being called up, nevermind playing.

Keep in mind that I feel the sme way about Liedson. By the time '12 rolls around and World Cup qualifiers we can't depend on him.
I would love for a couple of younger forwards to develop. That means on the club level. Even if they don't start on the Seleccao, let them train with them and experience the atmosphere.
Orlando Sa has to start to make his mark while at Nacional.
Academica's Fidalgo has been doing well.
P Fereira's has several youngsters on loan that need to be watched closely. Oliveira has been doing well at only 19 years old. Pizzi and Caetano have also contributed.
Portimonense has Candeias and Ivalnido, that bear watching.

For all of our deficiencies at midfield, we have quantity there.
Seleccao
33 Wednesday, 13 October 2010 13:28
yall better understand that Carlos Martins only played coz Veloso was injured. so all you vouching for danny to take the position u're dreaming then. Bento is using the Moutinho-Veloso Combo, the same one he used while at Sporting....Veloso is the DM Seleccao need to free up Meireles to make those incisive passes...
Meireles-Veloso-Moutinho
Good stuff, but not as convincing
32 Wednesday, 13 October 2010 07:36
The Portugal team did what had to be done, come back with maximum points from these two games. But was less convinced with this performance that against Denmark. Less fluidity in the passing, more individualism and sometimes being overly hasty rather then fast. That said, if this is us playing badly thats a very good sign of things to come. Now Bento has more time to plan further for our next games.

Regarding the Striker discussion thats been a Tuga problem since 66. While I like the physical presence of Almeida no one is convincing. So rather then replace him with Postiga the eternal underachiever shouldn t we try a young player with some potential.

This is what we need from seleccao, great display from two matches under Bento...this guy has succesfully helped CR to find his good form in NT..his goals against iceland and denmark are really convincing..Raul meireles shows his great display too as a holding mid in two matches..so pepe is no longer in that position, carlos martins played much better than denmark's game,,and Moutinho was awesome...but almeida is a flop in two matches,,but as long as we don't have any striker who can replace,,we have to keep him in the starting role..however he's better than postiga..so i think bento's starting XI has been revealed now,,: Eduardo, coentrao, pepe, carvalho,Pereira(maybe bosingwa will take over the position when he's recover),Martins,Moutinho,Meireles,CR,Almeida,Nani..
get ready for the next friendly in march against spain..hope we can revenge,,bento's tactis will be tested very much in this match..but i'm glad because bento has transformed seleccao into attacking football as for queiroz..
Bruno
29 Wednesday, 13 October 2010 03:10
As a Porto fan I love Bruno; However, I prefer the Pepe and Carvalho partnership. I much prefer to see guys who play together all the time. They develop that sixth sense when playing together making those quick "correct" decisions that comes from working together constantly. As for today's goal from Iceland I felt it was Eduardo's fault, he missed judged the ball big time and hence the goal. It was a weak header from the back of the head. We really need to work on defending against set pieces. It seems historically our goal tenders suck at defending against them. Baia not included. Either way it is good to have some depth, nice to see some talent on the bench too. Varela being one of them. Hugo may not be a great finisher at times but he has physical presence like Bruno which can be an asset against bigger northern teams, furthermore he helps split the defense or keep them on their toes. Remember how when Failroz took him off against Spain, and how the defense were now able to press forward? And then the goal? As for Nuno, he was always a great impact player coming off the bench. Can he still score those wonder diving headers or short volleys of yesteryear? I don't know but he was awesome and served us all well when he played. Regardless who starts, lets hope we start a long and successful winning streak like our last one during the Scolari era and may Bento be a success. Viva o nosso lindo Pais... O Portugal!!:-)
Nuno Gomes?
28 Wednesday, 13 October 2010 02:29
Listen I love the guy but he hasn't played in a while for Benfica or Portugal, let it go his days are over.
Gino as usual you make no sense
27 Wednesday, 13 October 2010 01:53
What does Alves' choice of where to play have to do with whether or not he is a very good player and an asset to our team. Seriously, for all your pontificating here - you would make a terrible manager. A player's choice to make some money for his future determines his worth as a player? The guy has always showed up for his country and leaves it out on the field every single time he plays...he never cheats the fans on his effort and his heart.

My comments on Nuno Gomes has nothing to do with what time I support in the Liga. The team I support first and foremost is our national team. Nuno Gomes has scored some huge goals for us, but his time has passed on the international scene. I'm sorry to say it, but it is true. WE need to develop a striker that can create something out of nothing and a guy who can finish. I don't think Nuno can keep up with the pace of the game now to create anything on his own.
Ay Pa!!!

This is how we doooo it.... This is how we do it... all night, every night... This is how we do it... all day... every day.

Nice win, Bento 2-0-0 - Oh... I like that.

I just scarfed 2 paposecos filled with a little turks, touch of must or like I call it... da mooshtarda... little copa vinho to wash it down... you know how I do....in celebration yo!!!

If we win one more in a row, I'm going crazy: I'm fritando marcellas (2) tossing them in a paposeco and washing it down with some queijo sao jorge and a sagres chaser!!

THIS IS HOW WE DOOOOOOOO ITTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!

Nuno Gomes v Liedson
25 Wednesday, 13 October 2010 00:12
@Carlos/Toronto/SLB

Liedson has hit double figures in every single one of his 7 seasons at Sporting...

Nuno Gomes ...hasn't ..(he's hit double figures only once in his 8 seasons)

I understand perfectly where you are coming from though, and I do think he should be given a try... I don't think he would've missed the sitter against Iceland.. give him a try over Postiga but not over Liedson or Almeida

Well said Voice of Reason!! It's not every time I agree with you. Your comments here tonight are 600 % BANG ON.Bruno is a beast in the AIR, who would you rather have defend a player like Michael Ballack on a set piece "Carvalho"? are you kidding me? Here we go again more of the same old crap, comments like WE NEED A BETTER FINISHER:I hope to God that Paulo Bento does not listen to journalists or other media related people who after every game want to change the whole team .That was Carlos Q down fall, he tried to please his critics and lost all focus.STAY OUT OF THE GARBAGE BENTO (IT STINKS)

you are 100 percent correct i see people coming on here like manny scp talking bout thank you to porto and sporting for making the selecao that pisses me off the portugal team is not benfica porto or sporting it is portugal we must stop hating on certain players because of where they play seriously and if helder postiga got called up then nuno gomes should defniatley get called even though he barely play for benfica he could be just as good if not better i say way better then postiga now everyone stoped being biased and stop supporting your club and lets support portugal yes PORTUGOAL not benfica porto or sporting
RE:

Bruno Alves moved to a lesser competitive league for money. It shows where his priorities lie. I understand he is good in the air but his work ethic is poor. His body tires out easily and he cant keep pace. I'd say Pepe is just as physically well to defend aerial attacks and can still run. Carvalho makes those last ditch tackles to perfection and saves many goals from happening which is why its a great combination. Either way, Pepe is a natural CB, not DM. I think if we want to play attractively, we need a more balanced team which is why Meireles is the answer for defensive mid. He sweeps up well and can still score that occasional goal (like today).

In regards to Nuno Gomes.. Many of you think its 30 and done. Give him a chance. He may not be as fast but he is consistant when given those kinds of chances. Postiga has disappointed.
Nuno Gomes
21 Tuesday, 12 October 2010 23:21
The only reason you guys critisize Nuno Gomes is because of his age and probably because he plays in Benfica... the problem with most portuguese is that when it comes to the seleccao, you guys only cheer for the players from your club and not the others...

Yes, Nungo Gomes is old, guess what? so is Liedson...now tell me why we should call up a guy just as old as Nuno Gomes, he's not even Portuguese by heart, and a weaker striker? ill tell you why.. cause Liedson is from Sporting which is where a lot of the players were or are from. There's still that rivalry here..

although you guys don't want to admit it, you know Nuno Gomes is better than Postiga and Liedson... he would make a great supporting striker for Almeida!

By the way, why is rolando constantly getting called up? :S like he's not even good and we dont need him. Its just another brazilian that shouldnt be there taking up space...
Sloppy but good

Iceland made it difficult to run a fluid game. The score should have been higher and again I wanted to see that Iceland goal because I couldn't tell if it went in. Hugo missed a HUGE opportunity but couldn't get it together, Nani or Ronaldo could have capitalized on that. Pereira was very unsportsmanly with the Icelandic goalie. All in all it was a win and great moral for the team. Keep up the good work.

Notwithstanding the enlightened views of SupremeGino and a previous poster named Paulo who thinks Bruno should be on the bench.

I'll ask you two geniuses one question...since you are both such great evaluators of talent and watch all of the games. What has Portugal's biggest vulnerability been in their own zone? Would it surprise you if I said it was defending crosses and set pieces - ie. corners and free kicks?

Why on earth would either of you just discount our defense's best aerial defender? I didn't see the game today, I read commentary on RTP. RTP said Iceland's goal was off a corner and Iceland beat Portugal in the air.

So you tell me...Bruno isn't good enough anymore? You can criticize his decision making at times - he had a bad game against Cyprus - but Pepe and Carvalho for all their quality can't defend like Bruno. He is a beast in the air and a physical presence that comands respect back there.

Yup we beat Iceland today - but do you really think we'll get away with that against teams like Germany and England who like to cross in the box? We'll get eaten alive without Bruno in there. Personally, I'd rather see Bruno and Carvalho together - easily the best central defense at the WC - with Pepe playing in front of them.

But hey, what do I know Gino? I mean you are the guy with the plan...like bringing back 33 year old Nuno Gomes into the national team.

Jeezus man...
Can finally have a good sleep tonight

I am happy we got these six points the the last two games. We all know it will be a triple threat for who's going to top this group and nobody is really expecting Cyprus and Iceland to make a huge difference. But we also got to keep our eye out for Norway vs Denmark in March and hope for a draw then we can take Norway out in June.

Anyways i'm happy for these boys and I believe we can top this group!
Great Win

Love that we got the win..Though we did look a lot more sloppy this game..We are scoring goals again...We just need to beat teams that are big in the world..Spain will be a great test...Viva O Portugal!!! I'm proud of these guys today.Paulo Bento....So far so good.
Forca Portugal

While we didn't perform the same way we did against Denmark it was still another fine display by this rejuvenated Portugal side...Why couldn't the FPF resolve all the Failroz bullshit over the summer and hired Bento at the start qualifying?...Anyways I'm loving what Bento is doing to this team...I'm glad the boring and uninspiring Portugal is gone and the old, exciting Portugal from 2004 to 2006 is slowly coming back...You can see the players on the field know their role and execute it well...One in particular is Ronaldo...Freaking Failroz was using him all wrong, but not Bento...Ronaldo is more of a team player instead of a one man show now...I'm sure Bento gave him some words of advice after the Denmark game...I mean he played good against Denmark, but was way better against Iceland tonight because he got involved with his teammates more instead of his regular thirty yard shots outside the area...The only thing I wish for this NT now is a forward who can put the ball away...I like H.Almedia, but he isn't the answer up front...And even though H.Postiga scored a lucky goal today his still a total weenie lol...Anyways we are going to see what this Portugal team is made of against tougher opposition when we play defending Euro and World Cup champions, Spain next month!...

Forca Portugal
i agree with danny
15 Tuesday, 12 October 2010 22:11
i agree danny is more creative but martins holds the game well and still isnt having horrible games liek amy of you state he had a good first half holding the ball and making easy passes yet you consist to hate him but if u say he had a bad game then so did moutinho moutinho didnt do much i forgot he was on the field untill he made that tackle to get the ball from iceland and nani had a good first half but did nothing in the second eexcept for stepovers and holding the ball longer then he needed to now im not saying to put nani on the bench we need him but lets not just blame everything on martins he had 1 bad shot and one okay shot but most of you say he doesnt do anything how about that great ball to nani a 1-2 play in which almeida got the ball and failed but of course no one sees that about martins they just see the negative and dont notice the negative of other players
speaking of almeida why does he play but of course nobody focuses opn his errors but everyone keeps focusing on a simple bad shot from martins although he linked with ronaldo and nani well and coentrao im just saying give him a chance
and admit that moutinho was just as bad once again lets not be biased and out of 10 i give martins a 6.5 and the smae goes for moutinho lets notice his positives for ponce and that was making simple passes some good 1-2s and holding the ball and i believe if bewnto let him play freely like at benfica he would play much better it seems as though he is dropping too much im not blaming bento for his performance im js=ust saying he doesnt look as free as he does at benfica
give him a chance he has improved from the last game to this one and he will continue to improve
We'll take it

3-1. Good job but some things are more clarified. Martins shouldnt start and Postiga shouldnt be subbed in. Moutinho, Nani were quiet but could have been fatigue. I still wonder if that ball crossed the line for Icelands goal. RTP didnt show replays. Changes must be made to the midfield. Also, call back Nuno Gomes. He may not play with Benfica but he still trains with the team. Postiga is no good. Tiago played well for the time he was given. I guess we say good bye to the seleccao till June.
Danny Needs To Start Ahead of Martins
13 Tuesday, 12 October 2010 21:52
Once Danny came on the field, his presence and creativity was immediately felt, producing that one two with Ronaldo but sadly missing a sitter. Nonetheless, he is much more creative then Martins, creates his own goals as well, and possesses an all around better technical ability. Martins is a good sub for late in the game, but definitely not a starter.

On another note, Portugal proved to be a very strong team today, because even when they're not on, they still win games regardless. Great character.
ok game

The play was not as fluid as it was against Denmark but I'm still very proud of the performance. Great goals from Ronaldo, who I thought was our best player tonight, and Meireles too.

Too bad about the soft goal we allowed but I don't mind one goal when we can score 3 every game. It's good to see the offense doing better. We still could've had 4 or 5 but 3 is good and we're obviously improved in the attack.

It's great to be winning again. Forca Portugal!
great win!

Bento works his magic again, great stuff

forca Portugal!
Martins
10 Tuesday, 12 October 2010 20:42
Okay we can't praise a player for winning a free-kick, you can put a 2yr old out there and he could do the same thing. He has played alright though.. Some decent passes. I just wish he knew how to shoot..
martins
9 Tuesday, 12 October 2010 20:35
first half just ended and to all u martins haters you cant lie he has had a good first half he got the first free kick to give ronaldo a goal played a great pass to nani and i think him and nani work very well together and so far what ive seen he has only lost the ball once well done martins let the haters talk
Cracking goal...

..what a strike from Meireles.
Iceland's goal
7 Tuesday, 12 October 2010 20:15
What a fluke. Again, a huge defensive error on Portugal's part. I'm tired of watching them give away games because of ridiculous mistakes and poor defending.

On a positive note, great goal from Ronaldo! And WOW! Meireles with an excellent strike and goal as I'm writing this!
Keep it up boys.

Finally, get that Martins off the field. He wastes perfect opportunities.
Line Up
6 Tuesday, 12 October 2010 19:42
Satisfied with the line up. Sorry Bruno but Carvalho, Pepe is better. Can't really complain.. guess Martin's deserves another shot but maybe tell him to pass instead of shooting out of the stadium. Lets go. FORCA
