Augusto Inacio leaves Naval

Coach says his goodbyes on friendly terms

Augusto InacioNaval badgeNaval and coach Augusto Inacio have parted ways. After leading the Figueira da Foz team to their best ever finish, eighth place, Inacio did not reach agreement with club president Aprigio Santos and will not train the side next season.

“Above all I have to highlight the highly respectful manner of this last meeting,” said Inacio. “Some things are never lost, such as the friendship and warmth I feel towards the people here and the club. I would like to thank the president, directors and fans for the way they always treated me.

“It wasn’t a question of finances. There was simply a difference in points of view. I thought one thing would be better for the club, but the club prefers to go down a different road. As such, it makes no sense staying on, if we are not in harmony. It was a question of structural problems.”

Inacio is unlikely to stay out of work for long. As well as guiding Naval to their highest ever position, he also took the modest outfit to the semi-finals of the Portuguese Cup, not to mention having a national championship on his CV from his time as Sporting coach.

“I’ve had some talks, which I duly communicated to the president because while Naval coach I would never take a decision before talking to Naval. Now it is natural that these contacts will intensify. Olhanense? I haven’t been contacted by anybody from Olhao.”

Inacio did a nice job with Naval this past season as they were playing well towards end of season, and they only finished 5 points back for that 5th place Europa spot. Naval beat Sporting gave Benfica early trouble at home, and they had a great run in the Taca. Inacio's resume speaks for itself and he will lead another top flight club next season
