Naval players happy with tough taskmaster Zvunka

French coach implements rigorous training regime

Victor ZvunkaOne of the great unknowns of the new season concerns Naval’s new coach, Victor Zvunka. The Frenchman has made a good impression on the squad in his first weeks at the helm, says forward Marinho.

The appointment of Zvunka sits well with Naval’s recent policy of confiding in talents plucked from the lower leagues of France. Around one third of the club’s squad is made up of French nationality players.

Zvunka arrived in Portugal very much an unknown quantity. As a player he made 300 appearances for Marseille and since becoming a coach he has managed no fewer than 12 different clubs, the most famous of which is Toulouse, who he was in charge of way back in the early nineties.

Upon arriving at Figueira da Foz he implemented a rigorous schedule to prepare the squad for the new season, with training sessions starting at 7.00 o’clock in the morning!

However, Marinho says that the players are not complaining. “We have a strict coach, who is very organised,” explained the winger. “Every player has to know what function he is expected to fulfil. With a greater or lesser degree of difficulty we are adapting and complying with what is asked of us.”
