Naval to take Genoa to FIFA

Portuguese side not to be short-changed over Diego Angelo deal

diego_angelo.jpgThings are getting somewhat messy between Naval and Serie A side Genoa. The Italian club are thinking of forfeiting an accord where they agreed to buy central defender Diego Angelo from the navalistas, signing the player to a five-year deal.

The problem has arisen from the Lega Calcio's new ruling whereby the organisation passed a law that states that teams in Serie A & B can only have one player on their roster that is not a member of the European Union.

Genoa already has, at least, one player on their books under that classification and cannot have another according to the new law, as Diego Angelo only holds Brazilian citizenship.

This has put the Rossoblu in a very precarious position, but one that Naval president Aprigio Santos considers not the Figueira da Foz outfit's problem.

"Genoa has to fulfill their obligations or the matter will go to FIFA," said Santos curtly. "Neither Naval nor the player himself are willing to back down form what was agreed. Responsibilities are to be served."

"Diego Angelo is a Genoa player and all that can be said at this moment is premature."
