Naval ring the changes up front

Star man Marcelinho moves on, new striker brought in

MarcelinhoNaval’s Brazilian striker Marcelinho (pictured) has confirmed his move to the United Arab Emirates, where he has signed for Sharjah FC, coached by Portuguese tactician Manuel Cajuda. The Figueira da Foz club have immediately filled the vacancy with Algerian striker Mehdi Kerrouche.

Marcelinho, a consistent goalscorer for Naval over recent seasons, has jumped at the chance of a big payday. The modest outfit are thought to have received 900,000 euros for the marksman, making him the club’s record sale.

The board have not reinvested heavily, however, bringing in another player with strong French connections. Mehdi Kerrouche is a 23-year-old Algerian and has played most of his career in the lower divisions of France and Belgium, as well as taking part in the Arab Champions League for Algerian side USM Alger.

Kerrouche has clocked up an impressive goal ratio of around 2 goals every 3 games in his career thus far, and will now try to keep his eye for goal at a higher level.

The strong French connection at Naval may help him settle quickly into his new surroundings. The club have nine French players in their squad.
