Ivory Coast turn to Eriksson
Former Benfica coach in the frame to take over Elephants
Portugal’s first opponents at the 2010 World Cup, Ivory Coast, have announced they are in negotiations with Sven-Goran Eriksson with regard to their vacant managerial post.
Eriksson has a wealth of experience at both club and international level, including success at Portuguese giants Benfica, with whom he won the Portuguese championship. He also led the Eagles to the European Cup final in a second spell in Lisbon. He later coached England in two World Cups and one European Championship.
The 62-year-old Swede watched on as Ivory Coast fell to a 2-0 defeat to South Korea in a friendly played in London last Wednesday. The Ivory Coast football federation has released an official statement on their website which reads:
“Ivorian federation directors, who are looking for a coach to lead the Elephants of the Ivory Coast, have had discussions with coach Sven-Goran Eriksson who showed his desire to lead the Ivorian team in the 2010 World Cup.”
Another experienced coach in the running is Dutchman Guus Hiddink. Ivory Coast sacked Vahid Halilhodzic, who had been at the helm of the team for two years, at the end of February following a disappointing African Cup of Nations campaign.

It seems that Ivory Coast, amidst all of their talent, has some primadonnas that are giving them trouble, namely Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba.
