Porto’s Vieirinha wants to stay at PAOK

Midfielder hopeful of continuing under Fernando Santos

VieirinhaFC Porto winger Vieirinha says he would like to remain with Greek side PAOK for next season, but insist no decision has yet been taken on his future.

The 23-year-old spent last season on-loan at the Toumba Stadium, where he played under the guidance of former Benfica boss Fernando Santos. A knee injury ruled the former Portugal under-21 international out of the majority of the first half of the season, but Vieirinha returned to full fitness in the New Year and managed to clock up sixteen league appearances.

“I had a difficult season due to a serious knee injury and I don’t know what is going to happen,” Vieirinha told the Greek press on Monday. “I am waiting for a phonecall from FC Porto or PAOK, but I do not have any information on next season.

“Fernando Santos was perfect with me and I am very thankful. I want to continue to work with him and I think he also wants me to stay at PAOK. I hope that Porto allow me to come back and play in Saloniki next season.

“I belong to Porto and it is they who will decide, but I would prefer to be at PAOK. We are in the Europa League which is a great incentive and I want to help the team do well in European competitions.”

Vieirinha is the second Portuguese to pledge his intentions to PAOK, after captain Sergio Conceicao recently stated his desire for one more year with the club. “Figo is 36, Nedved is 36/36; I am 34 years old, hence I still have one more year,” joked the 56-time Portuguese international.

Vieirinha is not going to have many chances with Porto, so it will be better for him to stay in Thessaloniki (on loan or transfer) and help PAOK challenge for the Championship and Cup next year. This year PAOK finished 2nd in Superleague and the only reason we're not going to play in Champion's League is the UNFAIR system with playoffs we have the last 2 years in Greece

I under the point about going to the Greek league but Bruno Alves went to the Greek league and look at where he is at. I think the Greek league will help a player get better. Portugal has trouble with the Greek aggressive play style, I would think this would make this guy better. I think this guy is all hype and another young Portuguese player who is a bust. If he was good, Porto would have kept him.
This is a joke.

Any player from the Portuguese Liga that goes on loan to the Greek league honestly gets their career ruined. I remember Vierinha was suppose to be a big prospect for Porto. I also blame FC Porto for ruining the player. FC Porto buys alot of good prospects but they don't play them all. I guess you can say that with any team that has money to buy young talent.
