PortuGOAL Podcast: Benfica power on in Europa League, Sporting out
Carlsberg Cup final preview, Mourinho and Deco discussed
The latest PortuGOAL.net pod casts a beady eye over last night’s European action as a brilliant Benfica display saw them win in Marseille, while Sporting were edged out by Atletico Madrid at the Alvalade.
The Carlsberg Cup final between FC Porto and Benfica on Sunday is also analysed, and the panel explains why the amount of love for Mourinho and Deco seems to be going in opposite directions among Portuguese football fans.
Part One: Jorge Jesus’ Benfica produced another outstanding display to beat Marseille at the Velodrome and advance to the quarter-finals, while Sporting came up just short against a Sergio Aguero inspired Atletico Madrid. Thoughts are also offered regarding Benfica’s mouth-watering tie against Liverpool in the next round.
Part Two: Bitter rivals FC Porto and Benfica will lock horns in the Algarve on Sunday in the final of the Carlsberg Cup. What can we expect? We also look ahead to what could potentially be the Liga Sagres title showdown between Benfica and Braga next week.
Part Three: In the third part of the pod we turn our attentions abroad and dissect why it is that Jose Mourinho remains very much the “Special One”. The panel also talks about the negative reaction to Deco’s recent quotes in which the Portugal midfielder says he feels he is a Brazilian and is looking forward to returning there.

Thanks always Top Brass & Company. As everyone else I listen to several podcasts with little hope of hearing about Portuguese football. You're providing us with a real gem.

Love to see the "press" being truly objective. Benfica are a offensive juggernaut and Marseille did all they could to keep them from exploding. I can't agree with the prediction for this weekends contest between SLB and FCP. The Aguias are special this year and they want silverware to show for their extraordinary efforts this year. Especially if it's at the expense of Porto. Mourihno would be a godsend to the seleccao. He's a futebol savant. As far as Deco is concerend I hope they filed paperwork to have his passport revoked. He's definitely off my FIFA 10 Seleccao.
Looking forward to the next Podcast.

I’ve only recently started hearing these & they are great. I’m thinking Benfica will score more then expected in the Liverpool.
I think the comments about the Cup match this weekend are fair. Benfica will put up a challenge but given the lack of rest it could be ugly. For Braga I have no worries about fatigue by next weekend. It will be at home & I think they will throw everything at Braga.
Deco is clown. Given that his career was built on the back of Porto & Portugal I would have thought he wouldn’t turn his back on us like that. He shouldn’t be called up. Given his poor play, lack of fitness, and now this embarrassing comment. We have plenty of talent that can fill a midfield.
Good stuff!!

I agree with many of the points made especially the about the Deco comments. I haven't heard exactly what he said but if its true, he needs to take his ass back to Brazil. There is no place in the Seleccao for anyone with these views.
Looking forward to the next Podcast.
