First of all, relax. Macedonia parked the bus for a draw and they got there result. Did this expose a weakness, yes. And once the weakness is exposed, it can be fixed. However, we do not have the personnel to really counter act that negative style of play. Almeida isn’t the same since he left the German league. He has to be a better finisher on headers. One was high, but the other was right there. He at least has to get the goalie to stop a shot on goal. Postiga was invisible. With the crowd they had, I do partially understand, but he has to figure out a way to do something. Time to test out Nelo in the Turkey game. Putting most anyone in the striker role at this point probably couldn’t hurt. And who knows, maybe Nelo will be a world class striker of the future. Or maybe not, but know way of knowing except to give him a shot. Was impressed on how solid Rolando played. Everyone else left something to be desired. Quaresma was not as bad as some think, no one looked good. The reason they kept coming to his side is there was nothing in the middle and the left side wasn’t doing much either. He did have a brilliant cross which if Fabio could have controlled better, would have been as easy a goal scoring shot as we could have gotten. Pereira looked to slow in the attack in the first part of the first half. Can’t believe we don’t have someone better, especially going forward. But he did pick it up as the game went on, and his defense was solid. Not that we were tested much. The negative approach works, look at the ranking(3rd) we had going into the 2010 world cup and our recent 2nd place in the youth world cup. When they attacked, if we tried to bait them into committing so we could counter it wouldn’t work, because we quickly regained possession. Other than Denmark, we shouldn’t face as negative style of play. The teams that make past the group stages, usually aren’t as defense minded, save for Greece if they make it.
