Ronaldo: “I want to explode in this World Cup”

Portugal superstar on expectations, goals and ketchup

Cristiano RonaldoA beaming Cristiano Ronaldo was on good form speaking as the chosen player in today’s press conference given by the Portugal delegation in South Africa.
The flying winger spoke of his burning ambition to make a big impact on the tournament, to win, and to rediscover his goalscoring ways for the Seleccao.
“My ambition is always to be the best. I want to explode in this World Cup and I’m confident I can do so. I’m not saying that I have anything to prove to anybody. When I say I want to explode what I mean is I want to play well, have a good World Cup and help the team to win,” began Ronaldo.
“I’ve got this feeling that I can help my Seleccao and that my Seleccao can help me; only together can we win something. And this is what I want to happen. On an individual level I think I had a great season, but that’s not always what counts. Real Madrid did not win anything and I’m sad about that.”
Despite a none-too-shabby record of 22 goals in 72 appearances for Portugal, the former Sporting and Manchester United forward has had a lean patch for his national team in terms of goalscoring of late. He failed to find the net at all during qualification, and scored his last goal from the penalty spot on 11 February 2009 in a friendly against Finland.

Goals will come

However, Ronaldo is confident his dry spell in front of goal will come to the end with a glut. “I hope to score on Tuesday. To be honest I’m not in the least worried about my lack of goals (for Portugal). As someone said to me, goals are like a bottle of ketchup. When it appears, it all comes at once.
“God knows who works hard and who is deserving. I’m perfectly calm. I’ve been doing the same things that I did four years ago, three years ago, two years ago. It’s going to be like ketchup – it will all come in one go!
“We have to think solely about the first game. We have to build a foundation of a good start to the World Cup. We’re going to have a very difficult game against the Ivory Coast. We have to concentrate on that, and only then on the second game.
“If we win the first two games, we will qualify for the second phase and then, as my friend Scolari would say, ‘it’s mata-mata’ (kill or be killed), and anything is possible. I hope we work well as a team and I hope to help. The squad is confident and I’m happy to be part of this squad.”

the most expensive player of all time, for his country he has'nt scored a goal in 16 months & in conflict with simao. ronaldo has an ego the size of a hot air balloon. more recent his picking on the vuvuzela movement which will allow them to boooo him. hopefully this will bring out the best in him. coachcarlos has got no control over this team his walking around like a " chicken ( cock ) without a head." i'll put my bet that danny will uplift this team to higher levels.we need a new figo.
Ronaldo's the wild card

As I posted before, I'm very confident about Portugal's defense (I think it is in the top 3 of the WC), the question is can we score? So, if Ronaldo finds his scoring ways, Portugal will go far in the tournament.

Oi torpiano! If you don't like it, you can go sit on your stale bottle of Laranjada.

This is the time for Ronaldo to shine, the biggest stage, millions of people watching, the question is, can he handle the pressure ? We all remember Champions League Final,MANU vs CHELSEA, Ronaldo missed the penalty, it was only by luck MANU won. He must play smart, and use his team mates, he cannot do it alone. much better to PAST, then to dribble and lose possession of the ball. I would rather say FORCA PORTUGAL, its about the team and not him alone.
Dont Try Too Hard

Actions speak louder than words

I want Portugal to respond to their critics as Germany did yesterday!
This is how it’s done! Forget about the so-called Football experts predictions and focus on what is ahead! Take each game as it comes. And always respect your opponents! Play as a unit and you may well bring glory to Portugal. At this precise moment nothing would bringing more joy…

I am so stressed out over the game tuesday. The Ivory Coast has excellent players and they will most likely give us a good fight, but I just have a weird feeling that Portugal will be fantastic. I really do believe that Ronaldo literaly could explode in this game and score 2 or 3 goals. The Ivory Coast will most likely attack which will lead to an open game which will help us create our swift attacks and create goals.

FORCA RONALDO!!!!!!!!!!!

FORCA PORTUGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hat trick on tuesday

Its down to Queiroz...
9 Sunday, 13 June 2010 19:46
Only if Ronaldo plays on the wing will he feel more confident in getting goals. Queiroz seems to prefer him on the wings, but Nani's injury should push Ronaldo into his best position.

Go for it!

The golden boot is his for the taking! Haven't you all been watching? It's been very tough to score so Ronaldo could quickly take the lead in the goalscoring charts vs the Ivory Coast.
He's determined and that's good to see. No one has more ambition to win than Ronaldo. He'll need some help from Deco and maybe Danny (and hopefully Simao). Plus, he'll need Liedson and Almeida to make space for him, but he can blow this tournament wide open on Tuesday.

Forca Ronaldo!! Forca Portugal!! Like ketchup this Tuesday!!
7 Sunday, 13 June 2010 17:33
Ronaldo's been more like a stale bottle of Laranjada when he plays for Portugal - all the fizz has gone and its rather bland and makes you want to throw up!
6 Sunday, 13 June 2010 16:32
if CR was surrounded by better talent he wouldn't need to put so much pressure on himself....
5 Sunday, 13 June 2010 16:31

You go Cristiano! Like Anthony said, WE ALL BELIEVE in you!!! Just know you have a fan in New York, I love you!!!!
Lets go...
3 Sunday, 13 June 2010 16:24
..Ronaldo!! Make it a hat-trick vs Ivory Coast.
i hope
2 Sunday, 13 June 2010 16:08
all the goals come at once, too. It would be sweet to see CR be the golden boot winner and Portugal make it to the semi's. Losing Nani hurts those chances, but Danny is playing well.

FORCA ronaldo!!! give it ur all ..WE ALL BELIEVE
