Bosingwa out of World Cup

Portugal right-back requires further surgery on knee

Jose BosingwaPortugal and Jose Bosingwa have received a huge blow ahead of the World Cup. The Chelsea right-back has been informed he requires a second knee operation and as a result will miss the rest of the season and the tournament in South Africa.

Bosingwa had a knee operation on 9 November after getting injured against Aston Villa. The 27-year-old had recently returned to light training and was even thought to be in contention for Chelsea’s second-leg Champions League clash against Inter Milan.

But Chelsea today confirmed the former FC Porto defender requires another operation. “Bosingwa will be out for the season. He will have another operation on his knee and unfortunately that is him out of the World Cup as well,” said Chelsea assistant coach, Ray Wilkins.

Bosingwa has 23 caps for Portugal and would be an automatic starter if fit. The unwelcome news will not be well received by Carlos Queiroz, who is already sweating on the fitness of Real Madrid centre-back, Pepe.

First off Queiroz needs to get Bosingwa to Portugal and checked out by the NT medical staff. How can he be doing light "training just last week and thought to maybe participate against tough oppenent like Inter. Then only today it confirmed by Chelsea that he will miss the world cup. Soa como Idiotas em Chelsea equipe médica. Filhos da puta. Maybe thats just light running, maybe its training with a ball or not. Listen I understand knees, ligaments are the worst injuries, anything involving the legs BUT IF ANYBODY will rule him out of the world cup It will be Portugal.

This is just like Ronaldo back when we were in playoffs with Bosnia.(In terms of Spain sayin he couldnt leave and their doctors checked him) Listen Im sure Bosingwa does need the 2nd surgery but it EFFIN PISSES ME OFF when a Club team are the ones to make a decision on a national team player as opposed to the NT doing their due dilligence with their medical squad.

Well after all that more than likely expect to see P. Ferreira who for whatever reason is preferred more so than Miguel at RB to Queiroz. Hopefully if Paulo does start it wont be another nightmarish performance like the 6-2 friendly against Brasil. And for everyone who says give Joao Perreria a shot I mean I hope your joking. Yes he has played well for Braga and for Sporting, but when Sporting played Braga most recently and lost 1-0, Paulo Cesar was more physical and easily got by him to take his shot. Joao Perrreira is basically Dudas size, so what makes you think he can hang with someone like Ramires from Brasil on the wing, or someone like Kalou from Ivory Coast. Its either P, ferr, or Miguel in Queroz's mind. Definitely agree if Pepe cant go call Meira, and he may be the freshest considering Russian league hasnt started yet.

Creio que ainda podemos ter sucesso na África do Sul. Ser muito difícil mas podemos

Forca Sempre Portugal
Sorry Bosingwa

It's true that this is a blow but Miguel should start in the RB no matter what. Bosingwa was more solid but did you see Miguel play in the friendly vs china? He was amazing! Taking passes off his chest and flicking over the defenders. He is very good assisting the attack. As for PF, he cant be a starter. Unless he can adjust in the LB position. The LB should be filled in by either Peixoto (who has experience) or Miguel Veloso at this point.

Not good for the seleccao this is the last thing we needed to happen first Pepe now Bosingwa.

It's time to bring in Joao Pereira or use Miguel they're our best choices for the RB position.

I hope we don't lose anymore players to injuries.

Forca stay healthy seleccao
No Paulo Ferreira please...

I can't stand to see Paulo Ferreira play anymore I respect for what he has done and accomplished over the years but as of right now he is overated and doesn't deserve a call-up.

As a right-back it should be a battle between Miguel and Joao Pereira but Queiroz needs to smart enough to call him first. I've been on and off watching Valencia and Miguel is playing good this year. When it comes to big competitions like this Miguel always comes to play like 2006 World Cup I honestly believed Miguel was the best player for Portugal until the injury got to him and you could tell he was upset. I hope there is a miracle for Bosingwa's recovery but I think God is destined to give Miguel his last chance.

Boswinga out is a big blow as this is one position where we have a world calss player and no debate about who starts.

Now starts the debate, Miguel or PF. Miguel at Benfica and early days at Valencia was one of the best RBs in Europe. We all remember Euro 2004 when PF was terrible against Greece and Miguel became the the right back. In some ways I think Miguel can be a better and more roughed defender than Boswinga.

I'm not close enough to it but Miguel has been a disappointment as negative publicity surrounds him and he is out of favor at Valencia. I think Miguel can be effecitve but knowing CQ he'll likely go with PF. PF the ultimate locker room guy who only plays English cup games as a 1st choice.

It doesn't matter what I may think PF is likely our RB.

This is a huge blow! Especially if Queiroz even thinks about playing Ferreira. I think he should really consider Joao Pereira. The guy has all the skills to perform at the next level.
Luck has nothing to do with it!

Smart countries like Italy have their top players out for long period of time during the regular season with so (called) injuries, then introduce them back in near the end of the season (just) in time for the World Cup.How many players from Juventus with be on the National team? This is World Cup year which means Italian Clubs could care less about Chapions League or Serie A.(STAY HEALTHY BOYS THE WORLD IS WATCHING)
bosingwa replacement

I think that if Bosinwa were not able to play then his replacement would autimatically be Miguel, our second best right back. Carlos Queiroz does not think so though. Paulo Fereira was almost not called for the whole qualification(miguel was), but when bosingwa was hurt then he called up PF and he played on the field instaed of miguel who was the substitute all qualification. Now that does not make sense!
BIG LOSS !!!!!!!!!!!

i can't belive this Bosingwa is definnetly one of the best right backs in the world. But it doesn't mean we will lose the world cup. We still have a chance of winning the world cup its either Miguel or Paulo Ferreira i wish the best of luck to Bosingwa for his recovery and good luck to Portugal. Also if its Miguel or Paulo Ferreira im sure they will do great in the world cup.
More Great News ; (

This is fantasic news to hear...Knowing Queiroz he will now put Paulo Merda Ferreira as the starting right back...I hope though CQ wakes up and realizes Miguel is a better opition...Lets hope we don't hear anymore bad news regarding injuries to our star players
Fernando Meira

Where has he been, I think Queiroz has to at least give him a shot in the next two games. He played in all the games for the 2006 WC and all the games except for one in the 2008 Euro (Germany game). This really isn't good news. Hate to say it but if Pepe isn't healthy I don't see us getting out of group stages.
bad news

This is bad news. bosingwa is one of portugal's best players and is a huge loss. But i wouldnt worry to much. Ive been watching alot of valencia this season and miguel has been in very good form, he can definately fill bosingwas spot
And now...

Pretty sure i'll be getting called up to play D for Portugal come June at this rate. I put this on the same level as losing Ronaldo. Bosingwa is a great weapon, and this hurts bad.

This is terrible, Were most likely stuck with Miguel he's been a inconsistent lately and he's been in the media for something negative. Well, I hope this article is wrong and Bosingwa makes a surprising recovery and call-up.
This is a huge loss for Portugal

jonieoooooooo
This is probably one of the players we can least afford to lose. He is one of the top right backs in the world. & right now we have no replacement, maybe Miguel if can get back to where he was prior to joining valencia, i doubt it though. With Pepe we can pick up the slack easily with plyers that are just as good as he is...Mendes, Veloso, Meira, etc. Man this is very bad news.
