Nuno Assis and Paulo Jorge head to the Middle EastDuo to make Saudi Arabia moves Newly appointed Al-Ittihad coach Manuel Jose has secured the services of two Portuguese players for the Saudi Arabian club, with Nuno Assis and Paulo Jorge joining the ranks.
Experienced boss Manuel Jose took charge of the team at the end of May, having left his position as coach of the Angola national side earlier this year. With the new season beginning in August, preparations are already underway to reinforce the playing squad to improve on last term’s runners-up finish. 32-year-old Nuno Assis had one year left on his contract with Vitoria Guimaraes, but the club have decided to cash in on the midfielder after his impressive performances last season, and Al-Ittihad are believed to have paid around 1m Euros for the midfielder. Paulo Jorge, 29, left Maritimo at the end of the last campaign, and embarks on his second spell abroad, having played briefly in Spain with Malaga. Both players move to the Middle East on two-year deals, with Manuel Jose confirming to Maisfutebol that there will be no further imports from Portugal due to foreigner restrictions imposed on the squad.
