Vingada steps down at Al-Ahly

Portuguese leaves Cairo post

vingadaNelo Vingada has resigned from his position at Egyptian champions Al-Ahly, less than a week after he was appointed as Manuel Jose’s successor.

Former Portugal boss Vingada had been announced as the Cairo club’s new boss on a two-year deal last week, taking over the reigns after Manuel Jose ended his seven-year association with the Red Devils.

However, just five days after the appointment, Al-Ahly have issued the following statement:

“The directors of Al-Ahly have accepted the decision of Nelo Vingada not to coach the senior football team due to a family emergency. Al-Ahly fully accept the reasons given by the Portuguese coach and wish him the best for the future.”

The 56-year-old has returned to Portugal straight away, telling reporters: “I have to go back to Portugal immediately to be with my family. I am sorry for my decision but I have no choice.”
