Maniche set for Turkey move

Lucrative deal for midfielder

Portuguese international Maniche is set to sign a three-year contract with ambitious Turkish side Ankaragucu, after his deal with Atletico Madrid expired.

Maniche, 31, had been a free agent since May, after disciplinary problems saw him released from his contract at the Vicente Calderon early, and the former Porto man had been coveting offers from across the continent in recent weeks.

The club are believed to have finalised terms with Maniche over a lucrative three-year deal worth 7.5m euros - 2.5m euros per year. The player is expected in Turkey imminently to iron out the final details of his move, before putting pen to paper.

It is the capital club’s second major foreign signing of the summer, after ex-England international striker Darius Vassell joined Ankara last month. Despite finishing in 13th place in the Super Lig last season, the club clearly have ambitions to make an impact on the upper half of the table next year.
