Rudy hits winner in top-of-the-table clash in Belgium

Cercle Brugges beat leaders Anderlecht

RudyPortuguese forward Rudy was once again fundamental in another victory for Belgian side Cercle Brugges. The 22-year-old scored a dramatic 90th-minute winner against leaders Anderlecht, taking his side to within three points of the table summit.

“It was a spectacular victory in a great game, with both teams giving it their all,” Rudy told Desportimedia after the match. “We always believed we could win. I didn’t play a perfect game from the technical point of view, but I played my part and helped the team win. That was the important thing. Anderlecht ended up with a player less, but they are always a very difficult team to play against.

“Winning these kinds of games is always special, because you are extra motivated. There are a lot of games left and we want to improve and continue to get good results one game at a time. Afterwards we’ll see how far we can go.”

The all-important goal – a neat left-footed finish from 10 yards out – was Rudy’s sixth goal of the season, consolidating his place as Cercle Brugges’ top scorer. “The goal was set up by some great play by Neto, who I have already thanked. I received the ball in the box and managed to score. I was missing the feeling of celebrating a goal,” said the former Atletico Clube de Portugal player.

Cercle Brugges remain in joint second place in the Jupiler League, three points behind Andertecht.

He is definitely a talented player. but he is more of a winger than a striker. He is over 6 feet tall and so far he's been scoring plenty of goals so maybe he can be used as a center forward.
Great Job

Sadly, the only people following Rudy is Portugoal.net. I doubt that the FPF is.

Let me add, before we go and crucify Benfica, Porto, and now Sporting for not developing Portuguese players, how do the mid-table clubs allow Rudy to go abroad. I'm sure that the fee that Atletico CP got wasn't that high. They weren't even in the Liga de Honra yet.
I know that the "Big 3" have the money, but there is no excuse for talent like Rudy to be overlooked by the mid-table clubs.

I'm so glad you guys follow these young talents. I think Balde of the U20 team also plays for them...

Nuno Reis already shows how important it's to play regular topflight games. He improved so much since his loan spell last season. He was very shaky last year during the euro U19 comparing with Roderick. But it's a whole different story in this year's u20 games. Personally I would prefer him to stay for another season, cause Cercles looks sure can book a place in Europe competition next season. After that, he can return to Sporting and pair with Carrico, this might even be our future Center backs solution.

Salomo is also doing very well for Deportivo, scoring 3 goals already. I think what a lot of the youth players lack is just playing time, I'm starting to worry about Nelson's future of he still can't get regular playing time in Benfica, we cant afford losing a talent like him, especially since he's the only quality young striker we have for now

It won't be long before this guy gets called up if he keeps playing like this. With Portugal's striker problem, him dominating in Belgium and the fact that he's only 22 I dont see why they wouldnt.

Its long but has the goal at the 6:00 point. For those who didn't know, Nuno Reis also plays for Cercles Brugge.
