Owls swoop for Diogo AmadoSheff Weds sign Portuguese midfielder with another set to follow It was yesterday revealed that Portuguese midfielder Diogo Amado will be playing for Sheffield Wednesday next year, after the 22-year-old signed a two-year deal with the English second division club following his release from União Leiria. In joining the Owls Amado will team up with compatriot José Semedo, Sheffield Wednesday’s Player of the Year last season. The pair played together in Sporting Lisbon’s youth academy, which Amado joined at the age of eleven after being spotted playing in his hometown of Lagos in the Algarve. He stayed with the club for eight years, during which time he was loaned out to Real Massamá and Odivelas, but failed to make a senior appearance for the Lions before being released in June 2010. He later signed for União Leiria, where he helped the club to a tenth-place finish in the Primeira Liga during his first season. However, he spent much of last season on loan at second division Estoril Praia, helping them to promotion to the top flight as champions, before being released this summer. He has made a total of 53 senior appearances to date. The move to England offers Amado a chance to get his career back on track, and he was clearly delighted when discussing the prospect yesterday: “I am incredibly excited about this move. I know Sheffield Wednesday from Portugal and they are a big, big club. I played with José Semedo at Sporting Lisbon and he is a great guy so he will help me to settle in Sheffield. I am really looking forward to this.” The Owls are one of the oldest professional football clubs in the world, and were also a founding member of the Premier League in 1992. Financial troubles have seen Wednesday slip down the leagues during the last decade but they sealed their return to the second tier last season after a two year absence, beating their fierce rivals Sheffield United to the second automatic promotion spot on the last day of the season. Their manager Dave Jones also yesterday confirmed that the club are hopeful of adding a third Portuguese player to their squad in the shape of Paulo Regula. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder, who spent three years with Vitória Setubal before signing for SC Olhanense last season, has already passed a medical with the club and is simply waiting to finalise negotiations before being officially unveiled. It will certainly be fascinating to see how the Portuguese trio get on as they try to help one of English football’s sleeping giants awake from its slumber. by Tom Clee |

The whole video is amazing but 3.00 mins onwards
Goosebumps like nipples.
I was thinking more of the futeboling aspect. Not saying Estoril is anything special, but if he had preformed he might of had more and better options after next season. Granted, I'm not versed on how good he is.
Amado was highly involved in Estoril's rise to the SuperLiga last season.
But, not enough for Estoril to sign him on the free?
Did Sheffield Wednesday offer that much more?
Is it really a step up from Estoril? Historically yes, but playing wise...?
I wish him the best.
