Ricardo brace puts Vitória Guimarães in pole position to make Jamor

RicardoBelenenses 0-2 Vitória Guimarães

A goal in each half from Ricardo gave Vitória Guimarães a comfortable win in the first leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-final against Belenenses.

Rui Vitória's team became the first side to beat Belenenses at the Restelo this season. The scoreline was harsh on the hosts, who created more and better chances throughout the 90 minutes, but paid for their profligacy.

The result will be a reality check for Belenenses, who have run away with the 2nd division championship this season, but who were found wanting when coming up against opposition from the top flight.

Two clinical finishes by Ricardo, who has been rumoured to be interesting Benfica, were a somewhat flattering reward for Guimarães, who are now well set for a second Jamor final in three years.

In 2010/11 Vitória were beaten 6-2 by FC Porto, extending an unwanted record of zero Cup wins in four final appearances. It now looks odds-on to be a Benfica versus Vitória Guimarães final, as both sides won their first-leg semi-final matches 2-0 away from home (Benfica at Paços de Ferreira).

The second legs take place on 17 April.

Agreed NJ i watched the match highlights and they missed so many chances......the one header point black was especially wasteful (fredy or rambe, not sure)

Really the difference was Ricardo who made the most of his chances while the Belenenses strikers really let themselves down....

If they play like that in the return, there is no reason they cant take back the win, as long as their finishing improves. Was fun to watch Belenenses play that flowing style, wonder if they will keep it once they move up to the top flight?

Belem, at the very least, deserved the draw.
Guimaraes will be playing a dark match right?
It would be great if Belenenses came back a won.
