Portuguese Cup semi-final draw: Porto land Rio Ave
Debutant finalist guaranteed from Chaves-Naval
The draw for the semi-finals of the Portuguese Cup has paired together the two strongest teams left in the competition, FC Porto and Rio Ave. In the other tie Liga Vitalis club Chaves will play Naval, with the winner making it to their first ever final.
Starting from last season the Portuguese Cup semi-finals are now played over two legs. Rio Ave will be looking to earn an advantage as they host holders FC Porto in the first leg in Vila do Conde, before travelling to the Estadio do Dragao for the deciding match.
Desportivo de Chaves, the only non top-flight club survivor, will play the first leg at home. Naval, currently floating just four points above the relegation zone, will feel they have a real chance of making it to the Jamor final in May.
The dates are yet to be scheduled for the games. The first legs will be played on 23, 24 or 25 March, with the second legs on 13, 14 or 15 April.
Semi-final draw:
Rio Ave v FC Porto
Desportivo de Chaves v Naval

By the way, I've read that the winner (or finalist if he winner have direct access) can not play Europe because these teams (unless Porto) didm't delivered the papers december (deadline) on portuguese football federation to inscribe european competitions next year. That's rubbish just to sack more money from poor clubs like Naval or Chaves. For exemple, how can imagine a club like Chaves on december that on may could have the possibility to play and win the portuguese cup?
Well, on the other hand and with a lot of respect for this clubs, I prefer the 5th portuguese league classificated on Europe, with a more competitive team, then Chaves or Naval just to make portuguese ranking going down.

Why? There are teams that didn't need trophies? LOL
