We're still confident - Miguel Lopes

Porto full-back moves focus onto Portuguese Cup

miguel_lopes.jpgAfter having suffered a heavy loss to Benfica in the Carlsberg Cup final, FC Porto will now concentrate their efforts on the Portuguese Cup as the Dragoes travel to the Vila da Conde to face Rio Ave in one of the semi-finals.

There is nothing more than Porto would like to do than to wash away the defeat over the weekend with a victory this Thursday against the vila-condense.

Porto right-back Miguel Lopes was quick to ease any of the club's supporters' fears that the team are on a downward spiral and may not have the necessary confidence heading into the match.

"The loss to Benfica is in the past," stated Lopes. "We will now focus on the upcoming training sessions and the match on Thursday in Vila da Conde."

"I think we are the favourites to win the Portuguese Cup. We actually would prefer the match to be tomorrow, so that we could win and feel more positive."

"(Rio Ave) are an excellent team. I've been there, so I know what they can do. We have to show on the field that we are FC Porto."

Given the repeated loses and disappointing season, a win for Porto would give their fans some hope that the team can rebuild for next year just like Benfica won over Sporting last season. Given Porto's downward spiral, Rio Ave could make it an exciting game. You just have to look at the draw with Olhanense recently to see that anything can happen during this game. I still remember when Setubal won the Carlsberg Cup over Sporting a few years ago.
