“My luck has changed” - NelsonDefender back in action Portuguese international Nelson says he is ready to seize his opportunity at Real Betis, after making his first start of the season following a four-month injury lay-off.
Former Benfica man Nelson underwent surgery in July, just weeks after the Seville club had suffered relegation from La Liga. As a result, the 26-year-old had to wait until last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Rayo Vallecano to make his first start of the season in the Spanish Second Division, but Nelson says he is now ready to make his mark. “I think my luck has changed,” he said. “Physically, I’m in good condition, but I’m still lacking a little match practise after four months out of action. Now I want to grasp this chance to make sure I’m always playing.” Having won three of their first four matches in the second tier, Betis have drawn their last two games, slipping down to 5th place in the table and attracting criticism from sections of the Andalucian press who expect Antonio Tapia’s men to achieve instant promotion. “The pressure we’re under at Betis is normal, because the club has an obligation to get promoted to the First Division,” Nelson said. “What concerns me is not the critics, but to improve the team’s performance, because although it’s understandable for the critics to focus on the defence, when we concede goals it’s a shared responsibility.” The Beticos host Real Union at the Ramon Sanchez PizJuan this evening.

Nelson is stuck in second division Spanish league and he's 26 years old. He should be with a club that fights a european selection. When he was developing as a player with Benfica I thought he was going to be with the Seleccao in the future and he was a bit inconsistent at times but then he moved to Spain and went downhill. I hope he gets back on form and bring Betis to promotion.
